14th CD State Central Committeeman Stan Bond… expressed hope that the IL GOP will stick to its party platform - meaning a conservative slant. Bond’s hope clashes with others who expect the current leadership to abandon if their proposed “unified” message is embraced. Bond says that conservative IL GOP platform is crucial to the party’s future.
“Conceptually I will say our party must remain loyal to its platform - a document which seemed largely ignored by losing candidates in this last cycle,” Bond told Illinois Review. […]
State Rep. Jeanne Ives - who almost unseated GOP incumbent governor Bruce Rauner in the 2018 GOP primary - has signed on as a “fellow” with the Illinois Conservative Union, spoke with Illinois Review about the state party chairman’s refusal to step down. Ives has become a key spokesperson for the state’s conservative movement. She pointed directly to the party leadership for failing to organize to take advantage of the Democrats’ obvious weaknesses and strategic failures. […]
“There are motivated Republicans still willing to fight in this state so we can save our homes and afford to stay in Illinois,” Ives said. “We will work together outside of official leadership to advance policy solutions at the local level and block bad policy at the state level. We will support and work only for candidates that support the party platform.” [Emphasis added.]

VI. PROTECTING THE RIGHT TO LIFE
We believe that our natural rights, as enshrined in the U.S. Constitution and the Declaration of Independence, begin at conception and continue until natural death. We believe that these rights include the fundamental right to life of unborn children, and we support the appointment or election of judges who share that belief.
We support a human life amendment to the federal and Illinois constitutions affirming the right to life of unborn children, and we support making clear that the Fourteenth Amendment’s protections apply to unborn children.
We advocate the overturning of Roe v. Wade.
We oppose the use of taxpayer funds to pay for abortions or to support organizations that perform abortions, that participate in the purchase or sale of fetal tissue or organs, or that create and destroy human embryos for the harvesting of stem cells for research or treatment purposes. […]
VII. EMBRACING THE TRADITIONAL FAMILY
The family is society’s central building block. Thus, efforts to strengthen family life are efforts to improve life for everyone.
Our children need secure and nurturing environments, which are best found within the traditional family. No law should be enacted nor policy implemented without fully contemplating the effect it would have on children and their families.
While not universally achievable, the ideal environment for children is within a two-parent family based on the principle of marriage between one man and one woman. The Republican Party endorses a constitutional amendment protecting our Defense of Marriage Act and enshrining in constitutional law marriage as it is defined in our “DOMA.”
* However, here’s the conclusion…
Therefore, we accept that good Republicans do not have to agree on all the issues contained in this Platform and that this Platform shall not be used as an instrument of division or attack on others within the party who hold opposing views. We must unite as a party behind those items on which we agree.

Well that concluding statement must have been left off of Jeanne Ives copy of the of the platform! She is all for purity tests for candidates. Let’s see how far that works! Does the GOP want to win in 2020 in this state?

Without the conclusion, this reads more like a political suicide pact than a party platform.
I hope nobody ever gives them the polling data that shows a large and growing majority of Illinois voters strongly disagrees with Sections VI and VII. The election results haven’t seemed to change their minds, so maybe they are content to sit out the whole governing thing. Fine with me.

Those obvious weaknesses and strategic failures produced the biggest vote for statewide candidates of either party since the switch to mid-terms in 1978.
Last month, every statewide Dem blew way past 2 million votes. Jesse White busted the 3 million mark.
No GOP statewide candidate has ever received 2 million votes since the switch to mid-terms.
Is Mathematics Denial now an article of faith in some GOP circles?

I’m waiting to hear that Stan Bond is a huge Ronald Reagan fan just to completely troll those like me.
Stan Bond has no clue what it takes to build a party… and is on the ILGOP’s state central committee. … that’s all ya need to know about the ILGOP.
Did I say I’d know in 38 seconds… it’s down to 25, and right now with Stan Bond, the leaning isn’t great to a rebuild.

That’s only true if the party requires 100% following like Stan Bond seems to be advocating.
“Stan Bond” is probably what’s wrong with the ILGOP…

Ok, that sounds good, but how come I feel there’s another shoe to drop to all these republicans willing to do something or another.

It will be interesting to see who fills the void left by Rauner in the GOP. If it’s the folks who are strong supporters of the platform, that’s very good news for many.

Well, it’s certainly going to be an amusing ride the next few years.
For all the attempts to portray Ives as somehow electable by trotting out the “she almost unseated a sitting governor”, the reality of that is that she failed to beat the worst liked governor in state history.
She’s going put a lock on democrat supermajority-control of the state for the next 2 decades, if not more.

I read that as anyone who supports reinstatement of the death penalty is opposed to our Party’s platform (”continue until natural death”), and there are plenty of my fellow GOPers who support the death penalty.
So, are we not to support any Republican who is pro-death penalty?

Would it not benefit both parties to work toward reducing unwanted pregnancies without interfering with what’s been settled law for decades? We can promote birth education and ensure resources like contraception are widely available. Many despise abortion, but many who do respect a woman’s right to control her own body.

I wonder if Ives could have gotten to 38.8% in the general.
I guess we’ll never know since that platform above couldn’t get her to 50.1% in the primary against the guy that got less than 40% in the general.
What I’m saying is, it’s a great platform, IL GOP. Stay the course.

Women voters in the collar counties are a group that the ILGOP needs to make headway with to win statewide offices. This doesn’t help.

As a Republican candidate who was on the ballot in DuPage county in November - to the quote “We will support and work only for candidates that support the party platform” - I say who cares! The ICU in DuPage county does not like to work - so not much to lose.
A Republican candidate on the ballot in DuPage at any level who wants a chance of winning in a general election needs to walk this tight rope very carefully. The ICU does not understand that it takes 50.1% to win.

Ives lost in the primary to an incumbent who was beaten in the general worse than any incumbent in the last 100 years.
It took the media 5 minutes after the polls closed to call the election.
So what does Ives think she is doing again?

Rank-and-file GOP voters don’t subscribe to the Rauner opt-out clause. They expect their Republican legislators to be pro-life and against marriage equality.

I don’t think the ILGOP will survive under Schneider’s or Ives’ guidance. They probably need a fresh face like Harold. She at least isn’t a bitter white person.
