Question of the day

Posted in:

* I got busy with other things today and forgot about a question. And now it’s late Friday afternoon.

So, discuss amongst yourselves, but please keep it Illinois-centric and be nice to each other. Thanks.

  1. I wonder if anyone from Springfield’s Storm Team 20 has ever heard of Col Jessup in “A Few Good Men” ? Calling the Code Reds and all.

  2. Illini playing well recently. Who is best college basketball team in the state? I think it’s hard to argue against Loyola, despite some bad losses.

  5. Just a dusting at best in the loop it seems from my office. Nothing sticking on the sidewalks.

As for College BB, liking how NIU is doing in the MAC so far.

  8. Interesting first week for our new governor, and Illinois.

A real tone is being set.

There’s honesty to feelings. The feeling of change, renewal, a feeling of cooperation. It’s perfectky measured too, overwhelming, yet not palpable. That’s the tone. High expectations with a measured assurance.

I’m finding those so willing to hurt Illinois with the past administration selling this idea we need to forget the past. Nope. That’s not how we move forward. Look around at those former enablers trying to package themselves far from what they are.

We have some trying to fill vacuums, we have others filling obvious holes, bringing hope and real optimism, something lacking for over a decade.

We saw a governor wear a tie, and on a normal business day too. We are seeing challenges being forced to daylight, as other challenges known get focus.

We saw sympathy, empathy, we saw raw and honest to people, not projecting what some thought others are feeling. Governing needs feelings and emotions to people to put facts, figures, and charts in context.

    It’s been one business week.

    I’m optimistic.

Bipartisanship governing, 60, 30, signature, working within areas of agreement, looking where compromise can be found in the rest.

A good week. A good week for Illinois.

  9. I know that Heather replied yesterday, and I’m not speaking for her, but I’d like to say thanks to Rich and the CapFax readership for sending $5,585 (at last check) to a young lady that will certainly have a very good graduation.

  10. A second mayoral poll showing Preckwinkle tanking.

Seems impossible to produce a reliable poll in a race with 14 candidates, so I’m tempted to take it with a grain of salt. But man, less than 6 weeks to Election Day and none of the supposed “front runners” (Toni, Mendoza, Daley) can top 11 percent in two consecutive polls? Voters definitely want someone new, but none of the second tier candidates have the financial resources to break through.

I’m excited to see what gets done the first full week of the GA in session with the governor.

Probably more than has happened in the past 15 years.

  14. ===What is everyone’s take on Rep. Stava-Murray?===

I, for one, can’t wait until she’s sworn-in to the US Senate and moves to Washington.

  15. When all 100 members of the U.S. Senate are listed alphabetically, the Illinois senators are right next to each other.

  16. ===I’m excited to see what gets done the first full week of the GA in session with the governor.===

I’ve set a lower bar, as the GA and governor roll out a great many things, but they’ll stagger it out, allowing wins and compromises to sprinkle, not be a downpour followed by a drought.

===Probably more than has happened in the past 15 years.===

I do think we’ll see a “calendared” agenda, where, unlike in the recent past, actual “week of X” will mean something to the GA and this governor.

    We’ll see… but I’m optimistic too.
