* You ever have one of those mornings when absolutely nothing seems to go right? Yeah. That’s me today. Talk amongst yourselves, but keep it Illinois-centric and be nice to each other. Thanks.

  1. Kenny Williams needs to stop talking about losing out on Machado. They were too cheap, so that’s on them. It’s over, moveon.org

  8. Heard on the radio the economist for IDOR. She said Illinois could set a growth record this summer for consecutive months of a growing economy.

If we remain in this bad of shape while we are growing, hang on when the downturn hits.

  9. Eagerly awaiting a regime change at IDOC. ANYONE wanna speculate/dish on the future?

  10. I read UIUC is looking to “plant” a second solar farm on campus ground. I wonder if there has been any consideration to using rooftops (the university has lots of those). Maybe they are, but I am just asking. Seems like it would be more “green” to use building rooftops than littering open land with solar panels.

According to two of my family members, southern Tennessee. My brother was outside yesterday there replacing a belt on his riding mower preparing to cut grass this weekend

  16. According to the meteorological calendar, today - Friday, March 1, 2019, is the first day of spring.

This calendar states that spring begins on the first day of March and will last until May 31, 2019.

The meteorological season splits the year into four seasons, each lasting three months.

This is to coincide with the Gregorian calendar and aids with meteorological observations and forecasting.

  17. ==Metra strikes again==

This was an issue with Amtrak and their facilities that Metra rolls over (Union Station and associated yards). From someone who does commute on the BNSF everyday, Metra is doing an amazing job given that the track and signals are not theirs. Including the management of yesterday’s unfortunate events. #LoadAndGo

  27. Very old soil, seasons are dependent on the Earth’s position in its orbit around the sun. So you can call today the start of spring, or Wednesday, or February 28 part 2, but the seasons change as Earth’s position changes.

  29. I must say it warms my lil nerd heart to see folks arguing about when Spring starts. Gotta love arguments about definitions–especially the sciencey ones.

But for me, no matter the weather, Spring starts with that first Spring Training Game. I love hearing the sound of a bat crack on the radio while waiting for my car to warm in -11 degree weather.

    Let’s go Cubs.

  30. Sectional Finals tonight in boys basketball Classes 1A and 2A.

I see 5 of the 16 remaining schools in 2A are Chicago Public Schools. I suspect Orr is again favored to win it all.

Chicago Marshall beat TTown in girls 2A title game last week. Coach Gaters has had a tremendous career.

Amazing how low enrollments are at many CP Schools. Back in two class system, all were 2A (1970s-1990s).

Can really see demographic changes by just looking at IHSA school enrollments.

Those laid off at WIU are supposed to be notified this afternoon, with layoffs affecting all categories of employees. Apparently the layoff list has grown since an earlier round was postponed in anticipation of JB’s nothing burger higher ed budget proposals. This will be bad, folks, very bad, both for WIU and the Macomb area. People will be paying the price of the WIU administration’s ineptitude, the WIU BOT’s obliviousness, the Rauner fiasco, and decades of underfunding higher ed. Not a good place to be, putting it mildly.

  34. I reject the meteorological calendar. Spring doesn’t start today and winter didn’t start December 1 either. Go by the equinoxes and solstices.

  35. I just became aware that the University of Illinois Student Senate recently passed a resolution to name the river otter the mascot of the University of Illinois. “Alma Otter”?

Please someone, tell me this is a joke.
