More classic rock at the Illinois State Fair

Posted in:

* I liked Foghat and Bad Company in the 1970s and early 1980s. But I didn’t know they were still touring, or alive. Press release…

On Saturday, August 10, Bad Company will take the Illinois State Fair Illinois Lottery grandstand stage. Opening for them will be Foghat.

Formed in 1973 with members Paul Rodgers, Mick Ralphs, Boz Burrell, and Simon Kirke, Bad Company was the first band signed to Zeppelin’s Swan Song label. Their self-titled debut album went five times platinum, cementing their success in the UK and later on the US. Their hits include “Can’t Get Enough” (#1), “Rock Steady,” “Feel Like Makin’ Love,” and more!

After taking a break and pursing other avenues in the 80’s/90’s the band got back together in 1999 to release an anthology with four new songs and start touring again.

Opening for them is Foghat. Not a group to take it easy, they released their “Under the Influence” album in 2016 and another live album in 2017. Expect an energetic show with all their hits, including the ever popular “Slow Ride.”

Tickets for the concerts listed below go on sale via Ticketmaster on Saturday, April 20 at 10:00 a.m. and at the Emmerson Building on the Illinois State Fairgrounds in Springfield on Monday, April 22 at the following prices:

Saturday, August 10: Bad Company with Foghat
Tier 3 - $30 / Tier 2 - $35 / Tier 1 - $40 / Gen Track - $40 / VIP Track - $60

I suppose it’ll be a fun little outing if the weather is nice and the beer is cold and nothing else is going on.

  2. Fair organizers thought it read “Company Bad” and thought it was a perfect fit for the state fair.

  6. While we’re at it, let’s get Blue Oyster Cult, Wishbone Ash, Eddie Money, Bryan Adams, Deep Purple and Grand Funk Railroad?

  7. Lately I’ve had a jones for Foghat, after not listening to the band for so long, and have been listening to tunes like Home in My Hand and Drivin’ Wheel. I need simple, hard rock ‘n’ roll music that stands the test of time well.

There’s one original Foghat member left, the drummer. The lead singer/guitarist and lead guitarist passed away a while ago.

  8. I guess the band meant it when they said “Bad Company… til the day I die.”

Foghat should come out playing “Slow Ride” on their Rascals.

I wonder if Pritzker is timing the legal weed process for a bill signing at the Snoop show?

  9. I rocked to Foghat in the day. Why all the negativity? Damn, Fool for the City, Stoned Blue, Slow Ride. Lots of good hits.

  10. When bands lose their lead singer, they just aren’t the same. RIP Lonesome Dave.

Saw Foghat last summer at local town festival and they were terrible

  13. For the fair-going kids, this isn’t their parent’s music, this is their grandpa and grandma’s music. Maybe it will boost youth turnout, when grandpa and grandma bring the grandkids along.

  14. The way WYMG 100.5 teased this announcement today, you would have thought it was a Led Zeppelin reunion concert. This is just a bit of a letdown.

  16. “I rocked to Foghat in the day. Why all the negativity?”

The only flaw with ‘Slow Ride’ is that the song isn’t three times as long.

  19. Saw Bad Company in 1973 in San Francisco when they were one of three opening acts for Led Zeppelin at the old 49′ers stadium. I believe I saw Foghat at Winterland that same year but not sure. After all, it was the (early) 70’s…

  20. -What does it take to book the Doobie Brothers?-

What does it take to get the Doobie Brothers into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. When I left the Legislature and people asked what I am doing next, I would answer “trying to get the Doobie Brothers into the Rock N Roll HOF”.

When I was a freshman in High School, the Senior Class voted for “Slow Ride” to be the Homcoming theme. The admistration vetoed it, of course. Always thought it was a solid suggestion.

Would probably go see Bad Co. is Paul Rogers is with them.

  21. I think it’s ridiculous and probably unconstitutional that Tier 1 employees have to pay more for their tickets.

    Tier 3 - $30 / Tier 2 - $35 / Tier 1 - $40
