  1. Very slow in the south suburbs so far. 3 total walk in voters at my two precincts.

Comment by Les Nessman Tuesday, Apr 2, 19 @ 7:56 am

  2. With a school referendum on the ballot in my area of Aurora there were 3 votes in my pct at 7 AM

Comment by OneMan Tuesday, Apr 2, 19 @ 7:59 am

  3. I heard from my sister that someone outside my polling place is handing out sheets that says “No matter who you vote for, Be fair to Toni”

Comment by Michael Tuesday, Apr 2, 19 @ 8:15 am

  4. Here in Springfield on the west side it has been slower than normal.

Comment by Lurker Tuesday, Apr 2, 19 @ 8:18 am

  5. Slow slow slow

Comment by Fax Machine Tuesday, Apr 2, 19 @ 8:20 am

  6. #14 at my Chatham (Sangamon County) polling place at 6:40 AM. This polling place serves two precincts.

Comment by Leatherneck Tuesday, Apr 2, 19 @ 8:29 am

  7. To give a sense of the turnout, 22nd Ward was among the lowest turnout in the city in the general election. Between the two precincts (9+25) I’m poll watching, in the first round the candidates in the first round facing off in the runoff:

    Lori Lightfoot 4
    Toni Preckwinkle 11

As of 7:52am, we have a total of THREE voters in the two precinct. In short, TERRIBLE turnout.

More updates to come, if you would like to NOT get any updates let me know to take you off the list.

Most exciting part so far is a voter came in with a can of coke labeled “this is why I’m voting to bring in the light”

Comment by Julian Aguilar Tuesday, Apr 2, 19 @ 8:30 am

  8. 25 before 8am at a usually busy polling place with no convenient early voting location near it. They’ll be lucky to get 100 for the whole day there. Set the over/under at 110 and take the under.

  9. - Leatherneck - Tuesday, Apr 2, 19 @ 8:29 am:

#14 at my Chatham (Sangamon County) polling place at 6:40 AM. This polling place serves two precincts.

Which IMO is surprising considering we only had village trustees, school board, and public library races in Chatham. Although we do have our own hot-button issues that could increase turnout (especially the water quality).

Comment by Leatherneck Tuesday, Apr 2, 19 @ 8:31 am

  10. Lots of campaign workers, seemingly much more than usual. And signs? I saw a long scenic display of Lightfoot signs, on the medians and sidewalks. Lots of other signs elsewhere, in big clusters. So many Lightfoot signs.

Comment by Grandson of Man Tuesday, Apr 2, 19 @ 8:34 am

  11. Oak Park, voted at 7:15am was #8
We have 11 folks running for 3 village board seats

Comment by Matt Tuesday, Apr 2, 19 @ 8:38 am

  12. In my suburban precinct with mostly just school boards on the ballot, I was voter #1 at close to 7 am.

Comment by Ron Burgundy Tuesday, Apr 2, 19 @ 8:39 am

  13. Oops, forgot to vote this morning and won’t have the opportunity this evening. Sorry about that.

Comment by Skeptic Tuesday, Apr 2, 19 @ 8:40 am

  14. Decent turnout at my precinct in SE DuPage County. Mayor of our town + District 86 referendum are the keys races here.

Comment by Bogey Golfer Tuesday, Apr 2, 19 @ 8:41 am

  15. Scene from suburbs: Nada.

    Report from Lakeview: Nada.

Comment by lake county democrat Tuesday, Apr 2, 19 @ 8:46 am

  16. Superlow turnout means Toni has a chance. Not a great chance but low turnout is one of the many factors necessary for a Toni victory

Comment by Fax Machine Tuesday, Apr 2, 19 @ 8:48 am

  17. #6 at 7:50am at my Edwardsville polling place.
Slow but not a lot on the ballot.

Comment by Honeybear Tuesday, Apr 2, 19 @ 9:03 am

  18. Very, very slow. There is not much for which to vote. Many positions in Kankakee County are vacant.

Comment by Kate Cloonen Tuesday, Apr 2, 19 @ 9:05 am

  19. #5 to vote in Arlington Heights at 7:45, similar to Honeybear, not much on ballot.

Comment by Buford Tuesday, Apr 2, 19 @ 9:06 am

  20. I agree low turnout is TPs only hope. But is it really low? With early voting how can you say?

Comment by Fav human Tuesday, Apr 2, 19 @ 9:09 am

  21. A whole lotta nothin’ in suburbia.

Comment by City Zen Tuesday, Apr 2, 19 @ 9:09 am

  22. Im out in Lake County, Round Lake Area. This site has roughly 4000 registered voters. So far there is a grand total of….*checks notes*….. 4 voters.

Comment by Anonymous Tuesday, Apr 2, 19 @ 9:09 am

  23. Slow in the 47th Ward

Comment by NSJ Tuesday, Apr 2, 19 @ 9:10 am

  24. I think half the 47th Ward already voted. Real quiet out there this morning. More precinct workers than voters I think.

    Comment by 47th Ward Tuesday, Apr 2, 19 @ 9:15 am

  25. All but one race is contested in my section of DuPage, yet sadly only a dozen voters had shown up by 8 a.m. I did hear that early voting was up but won’t see those numbers until later today.

Comment by Dance Band on the Titanic Tuesday, Apr 2, 19 @ 9:18 am

  26. In Springfield, some genius decided today would be a good day to close part of Walnut Street at Edwards Street to do road or tree work. That means the main access to the Presbyterian Church polling place was closed this morning.
I’m sure there’s a side street access, but really, you close the road in front of a polling place on Election Day?

Comment by Michelle Flaherty Tuesday, Apr 2, 19 @ 9:19 am

  27. ===I think half the 47th Ward already voted.===

    That’s the thing now…

Election Day is the time from the beginning of early voting until the polls close. It’s not measured in a single 12 hour day.

    Adapt or die.

Campaigns knowing Election Day is an ending, they also know the real Election Day began days abd days ago.

The media and pollsters need to get into the business of tracking early voters like campaigns, then use a hybrid tracking/polling matrix to gauge actual real-time election status

Comment by Oswego Willy Tuesday, Apr 2, 19 @ 9:20 am

  28. they had an 85% turnout in Turkey….guess we will not match that.

Comment by Outsider Tuesday, Apr 2, 19 @ 9:23 am

  29. Apologies, to the Post…

Very slow today, per voters i talked with who just voted, early voting wasn’t “robust” even with SD308 referendum (h/t, - OneMan -)

Comment by Oswego Willy Tuesday, Apr 2, 19 @ 9:24 am

  30. Central Wheaton polling location had me as its #14th at about 9am.

Comment by Just another Anon Tuesday, Apr 2, 19 @ 9:30 am

  31. Was Number 38 for Capitol 96 on Springfield’s near west side.

Comment by Give Me A Break Tuesday, Apr 2, 19 @ 9:32 am

  32. #92 at 7:05am in Hinsdale. Proponents of Vote “Yes” on District 86 referendum outside polling places handing out last minute literature.

Comment by GA Watcher Tuesday, Apr 2, 19 @ 9:41 am

  33. Voters are coming out to vote in Normal. Rip

Comment by Andy Byars Tuesday, Apr 2, 19 @ 9:42 am

  34. I had the 23rd ballot in the 8th precinct of the 40th ward this morning around 6:50am.

In addition to the mayoral and treasurer races, our alderman spot is on the ballot as well.

Comment by Some Guy Tuesday, Apr 2, 19 @ 9:47 am

  35. Slow. I was #36 at near west side in Springfield.

Comment by Steve Rogers Tuesday, Apr 2, 19 @ 9:52 am

  36. #5 this morning at 6:20 a.m. There was someone outside the barrier in the polling place but I didn’t cross over to see who they were. No aldermanic runoff in my ward so the 2 precincts at my polling place were predicting a slow day. One of the election judges was saying most people did early voting already from what he was hearing.

Comment by 32nd Ward Roscoe Village Tuesday, Apr 2, 19 @ 9:57 am

  37. 41 voters at 10a here in the 35th. Glad I brought both books; already finished one.

Comment by lakeside Tuesday, Apr 2, 19 @ 10:08 am

  38. The mayoral race is a bit meh for me. I’m glad Daley or Wilson didn’t win. I saw lots of signs and campaign workers in front of my polling place, but I always vote early. I voted for the Light. Chicago has a corrupt system that needs to change, corrupt insiders who need to go. The system is broken. Focus, Lori, focus.

Comment by Grandson of Man Tuesday, Apr 2, 19 @ 10:10 am

Comment by Alan Tuesday, Apr 2, 19 @ 10:19 am

  40. I was #82 at my precinct at around 10:00 a.m. No line, as I often see, but people coming in and out. The election judge said it had been pretty steady, and she expects a rush at 4:00.

We have an aldermanic run-off, and Toni’s from the neighborhood, so that should drive turnout.

Comment by JoanP Tuesday, Apr 2, 19 @ 10:26 am

  41. Twice as many campaign workers present in my double-precinct polling place than voters at 730 a.m.

Comment by Jake From Elwood Tuesday, Apr 2, 19 @ 10:31 am

  42. Just went to vote in the Cook County suburbs. They did not have me in the system. I’ve voted there for the last 10 years. They had to register me as a new voter in order for me to vote. Also, the election judges told me I was not the only one to have this problem today. I would love to know how I was purged from the system. Something tells me I’ll never get a straight answer.

Comment by Prognosis Negative Tuesday, Apr 2, 19 @ 10:42 am

  43. In Woodridge at my polling place (with 8 precincts), I was the 6th voter at 8am. Reeeeally low.

Comment by Uncle Merkin Tuesday, Apr 2, 19 @ 10:45 am

  44. #37 at a four-precinct polling place in Springfield at close to 7:30 a.m.

Comment by Commander Norton Tuesday, Apr 2, 19 @ 10:54 am
