Late morning, early afternoon precinct reports

Posted in:

* First up, some shenanigans. From Hannah Alani

Aldermanic candidate Jessica Gutierrez filed a police report on Monday after a supporter of her opponent — incumbent Ald. Ariel Reboyras (3oth) — filmed the inside of her apartment and posted the video, and her address, on Facebook.

Gutierrez said she has lived in her home for nearly two years and was “completely distressed” by the incident.

“I’m really shaken up,” she said.

In an effort to question whether or not Gutierrez actually lives in the 30th Ward, a man named Esteban Burgoa filmed a 19-minute Facebook Live video in which he filmed himself walking up to the window of the 31-year-old’s garden apartment, saying he “happened to find” himself in the area. […]

To add insult to injury, she said, Reboyras condoned Burgoa’s behavior by sharing the video.

About four hours after Burgoa started broadcasting the Facebook Live, the official Citizens for Ariel E. Reboyras Facebook page shared the video in a post, referring to Burgoa as “one of our supporters.”

* Nice-looking truck, though…

  1. My sister went to vote about 8 am in the 39th Ward. No election judges at her precinct polling place so she “signed in” on a sheet of paper. Apparently someone will call when there are judges. Not a big problem for her because she’s about 5 minutes from her polling place, but this situation is disgraceful.

  4. I have over 600 voters in my rural downstate precinct. As of 11:10 there have only been 15 to vote so far. But there are literally no contested races and no “issues” on my ballot.

  5. Uhhhh any chance that the reason it’s only Lalonde signs in the back is because she’s the only one plastering stuff all over the public way?

And Toni doesn’t have a single sign up in this area, because I’d be shocked if she gets more than 33% of the vote in the Ward.

Lalonde’s totally littered the entire neighborhood. Bizarre stuff.

  6. On election day you usually get leeway to put signs on the public way

  7. In Chicago you get leeway to put signs on the parkway at the polling places as long as they are at the right distance. You don’t get the put them all over the neighborhoods parkways

  8. West side of Springfield - fully staffed with cheerful, helpful people as always. I was the only voter in there.

I also live in the 46th ward and can confirm there are Cappleman signs up at polling places across the ward.

  10. You can put signs up at polling places as long as the signs are outside of the electioneering restricted space outside the entrance to the polling place. You can hand out palm cards and engage in any electioneering activity outside of the restricted space.

  12. Mrs. Budget and I were voters 195 and 196 according to the machine count (we are Springfield Precinct 36 on the near west side) at 12:10 PM; but, that machine was counting three different precinct totals. No lines, walked in, voted, and walked out in five minutes.

  17. @Bourbon Street, that’s weird, and interesting, because the Dem Ward Committeeman is running for Alderman in the ward. does he not want the votes counted in that precinct?

  18. “Deb Mell straight up taking a page from the Russians is not a good look.”

It is also not original, yet still the most original thing Deb Mell has done.

  20. Just saw a bunch of Toni signs posted along an off ramp in a suburb, for traffic going away from Chicago. Pretty symbolic of her campaign.

  21. @46th Ward
How do you know where the signs came from? Are you the driver of the truck?
Also, signs up at polling places are often also in the public way (but are allowed to be, as mentioned by another comment).

  23. 16th District - voted at 12:15p.m. and was the 173rd voter for my precinct. More votes than I would have expected but there is a sales tax increase referendum which seems to increase turnout.

In a city full of strange ward boundaries, 2nd Ward might take the cake.

  28. Fairly crowded at my polling place in Springfield at lunchtime, at which people from six precincts vote. There was a line to get in, a line at my precinct’s table, and a line at the machine you slip your ballot into.

The public way out by the sidewalk is always a sign explosion.

  29. That Mell staffer could be in real trouble if the messages were posted using a city phone during work hours.

  31. In the next step of the ongoing saga of Cappleman keeping it classy, there is now construction equipment parked in front of his challenger’s office. Including up on the sidewalk. Wasn’t there yesterday when I walked by. Pics of it are floating around fb.

Comment by union proud Tuesday, Apr 2, 19 @ 3:42 pm

  32. Voted about an hour ago. No lines. I was the 444th ballot in. Three City of Springfield precincts vote there, and my Woodside township precinct. We really only had a Chatham school contest. One machine receiving the city ballots was almost triple the count on our side where a city and my township precinct were deposited.
