Rauners put their Winnetka house on the market

Posted in:

* Dennis Rodkin at Crain’s

Former Illinois Gov. Bruce Rauner and his wife, Diana, on Monday listed a Winnetka home they’ve owned for more than two decades.

The Rauners are asking just under $3 million for the eight-bedroom, 6,800-square-foot house on Rosewood Avenue. They bought the half-acre site for $830,000 in May 1995, according to the Cook County Recorder of Deeds. They finished construction of the house the following year, the listing from Jena Radnay of @properties indicates. […]

The Nantucket-style house has wood shingles, multiple high roof peaks and a white-pillared front porch. It was “designed to have total privacy while maximizing natural light throughout,” according to Radnay’s listing. Finishes inside include “finely crafted millwork, soaring ceilings and custom glass display cabinets,” it says. […]

The Rauners also have two downtown Chicago condominiums, both in a building on Randolph Street near Millennium Park. They have a 41st-floor unit that they bought for almost $1.23 million in 2008 and a 61st-floor penthouse that they bought the same year for a little more than $4 million, according to the Cook County Recorder of Deeds. Neither of these units was listed for sale as of Monday night.

* Tribune

The Rauners built the Winnetka mansion in 1996 on land that they had bought the previous year for $830,000. It has six baths, four fireplaces, millwork, high ceilings, a living room with a library, a dining room with a butler’s pantry, a great room, a kitchen with a breakfast room, a roof deck, a master suite with a spa bath and a lower level with a rec room.

The house sits on a 0.51-acre property in a neighborhood just west of Green Bay Road. […]

The Rauners also own numerous other homes around the U.S., including a penthouse co-operative unit at 50 Central Park West in New York City, which they purchased in 2005 for $10 million, and a four-bedroom, 5,370-square-foot mansion on Card Sound in Key Largo, Fla., which they purchased in 2003 for $5.6 million.

    Do they speak Italian on Randolph Street or do you think he is buying on Taylor street in Little Italy?

    What happened in the last 4 years that makes you think that having Bruce Rauner hanging around will be a blessing to our state, other than he pays taxes? The only institution in Illinois that is stronger for his time in politics is the Democratic Party. Everything else, including the Republican Party, has suffered catastrophic damage.

    So …. arrivederci!

  16. OK Einstein, Rauner paid 3X more taxes to Illinois than multibillionaire JB. Why the big jump in income for JB the year before he runs for office?

    The Rauners paid $13.9 million in federal income taxes and about $2.2 million in state income taxes, the returns show.

    Pritzker reported about $55 million in state taxable income, a boost from the $15 million he listed the year before, according to his returns.

    The Pritzkers paid $17.3 million in federal income taxes and about $812,000 in state income taxes, the returns show.

  17. “Who do you thinks pays the lions share of taxes?”

    When it comes to SALT, not the richest. They pay the lowest share. We can certainly live without union-busting rich right wingers with phony grievances about how bad Illinois is, while making hundreds of millions of dollars here and being taxed at the same state income tax rate as everyone else.

    Chicago and elsewhere in the state attract corporations and the highly educated who know our political orientation full-well. We don’t need rich right wing ideologues who wage war on our lower-income residents.

  25. Concerned Observer, Governor Walker moved to California after he got out of prison. Before that, Governor Stevenson left the state after he left office. But that was to be ambassador to the United Nations, so its not like he was abandoning his home. (Also not sure if the Rauners are leaving the state or just staying full time in the condo, where I think they were spending most of their time anyways.)

  26. Grandson, share and % do not mean the same thing. I’m sure you know that. If someone pays $100,000 in state income tax and another pays $2500 but the % is higher than person one, who pays for a lot more services and benefits to the state of Illinois?

  29. =I can’t quite figure out why so many Democrats want the wealthy to leave Illinois. Who do you thinks pays the lions share of taxes?=

    The middle class pays the lion’s share.

    Tell you what…I’ll buy his house at the asking price even. But, then I am going to prorate(reduce) what he is given by 75% like he did with transportation payments for three years.

    That is how the wealthy GOPers do it.

    Are you referring to the personal income tax? Because that accounts for 51% of federal taxes.

    Payroll taxes account for 35% of federal taxes, and the schmucks who work paycheck-to-paycheck pay those at a rate of 7.65%.

    The poor dears who pay corporate income taxes account for 6% of federal taxes.

  34. I’ve got a ranch home on 50 acres in Union county that isn’t worth a fraction of that asking price. Just goes to show the difference in property values in this state based upon where the money lives.
    Those who truly believe the rest of Illinois exists without Cook county doesn’t comprehend basic economics.

  35. “If someone pays $100,000 in state income tax and another pays $2500 but the % is higher than person one, who pays for a lot more services and benefits to the state of Illinois?”

    Rauner made $333 million in 2015-2017 and was taxed at the same rate as someone making $135 thousand for the same three-year period. And on top of that he wanted to drastically cut many thousands of those living paycheck to paycheck and be taxed at the same rate as them? I hope he leaves Illinois. We don’t need him or other right wingers pushing his kind of agenda. They need to follow their own narrative and do an Illinois Exodus.

  41. Grandson, basing it off the numbers you show in your post, at 5% state income tax, Rauner paid $16,650,000 to the state. The other person you reference paid $6750.
