Announcement of Build UP Illinois, a coalition to advocate and promote a vertical construction program as part of a comprehensive capital bill. Build UP Illinois is a consortium of groups representing P-20 education – including k-12 school districts and both private and public colleges – the Illinois hospital system and the AFL-CIO and affiliated building trades.WHO

I wouldn’t say the trades are just coming out of the woodwork,they have always been pretty clear about there support for infrastructure projects of all kinds.
As they should be!

Why is the gas tax being indexed to inflation, but the income tax brackets are not indexed to inflation?
Is it because this maximizes revenue for for taxes?

Does anyone think that the capital projects will include new water pipes for the south side of Chicago?
This could remove the huge liability of lead pipes for the city and would be a great gain for the Black Caucus.

I thought vertical construction was buildings? Why would that be the State’s concern? Or does vertical mean horizontal structures like pipelines?

School buildings, affordable housing to reduce homelessness, facilities for individuals with a developmental disability, etc. All in the state’s interest.

Infrastructure is a beautiful thing. If you have the money to pay for it. I’m not willing to spend another penny in taxes to cover projects that hospitals and universities should fund on their own just to keep trades guys busy. Generally speaking, when you are out of money, you quit spending first, or you prioritize as to what’s important. In Illinois, everything is considered to be important so they won’t quit spending. No thanks. I will vote against any tax increase and any legislator that favors one until I can retire and put Illinois in my rearview mirror for good.
