Boycotters furious when Harley dealership replaces Confederate flag with US flag on band logo

Posted in:

* From a reader…

Hey Rich. FYI some high comedy on the Boycott DuQuoin Facebook page amidst all the racism and off-topic posts. Apparently Black Diamond Harley who is hosting the band instead of the fair has altered the band logo without their permission to replace the rebel flags with American flags, and the Facebook group is going ballistic. My favorites are the amateur lawyers spouting legal theories for the band to sue on when the poster can barely spell.

* From the Facebook page

I don’t know if anyone else noticed but I did. Black Diamond took it upon themselves to alter the Confederate Railroad image by removing the Confederate flags & adding the American flag. Dont get me wrong I love Old Glory. But wasn’t this supposed to be a form of protest against the liberal censorship of this band. Black Diamond scheduled a concert for them & we are boycotting the fair because of the censorship but now BD has jumped on the PC bandwagon & CENSORED the band’s album cover……WOW!!! The Band could of done that themselves & still be playing at the fair…..THE MESSAGE GOT LOST SOMEWHERE!!! Oh well they have a sold out show, guess the message doesn’t matter….. UGH!!!

* The evidence

* The walkback

UPDATE:: A BIG THANK YOU TO BLACKDIAMOND FOR ACTING SWIFTLY & RECTIFYING THIS SITUATION!!
ENJOY THE SHOW FOLKS!!! THANK YOU BLACK DIAMOND!!!

This isn’t gonna end well.

  1. They were mad because the new logo had this nation’s flags flying.

    Give that one some thought.

  2. It’s the flag and what folks want that flag to “stand for”… not artistic license.

    That should make clear what the score is.

  3. Peeing Calvin, what say you?

    Thank you Peeing Calvin.

  5. I’m sure it’s lost on the band (and it’s fans) that the poor planning (and construction) of the confederate railroad was a contributing factor to the South losing the Civil War.

    Comment by Jocko Thursday, Jul 25, 19 @ 10:16 am

  6. This is about the music, not promoting a symbol of racism. Except when it isn’t.

    This is about freedom of artistic expression. Except when the artist is a Harley rider.

    Comical, what does Harley Davidson have to say?

    Comment by Thomas Paine Thursday, Jul 25, 19 @ 10:20 am

  7. Well Jocko, seeing that the fact that the South lost is lost on them, I wouldn’t expect them to sweat the details.

    Some or many of these people probably foam at the mouth about certain people they despise, calling them un-American. Point out the hypocrisy to them and watch the fun begin, with the insane rationalization, denial, justification, bad spelling and grammar, etc.

    Woof, and how @njt. I am certain he won’y be happy about that when he hears about it.

    Quick question for the class….when did the stars and bars become associated with Illinois or an important part of Illinois’ culture? Aside from fighting what it stood for during the civil war?

    (banned word….I think?)

  27. The Civil War remains the most important event in our political history after 154 years.

    The dividing line between those who think the South fought with some sort of honor, and those who think they fought to support an evil institution is still pretty stark.

    Mythology beats history most of the time.

    Comment by Skeptic Thursday, Jul 25, 19 @ 11:08 am

  33. This is so bizarre. I enjoy Confederate Railroad’s music but this whole debacle from start to finish. If this were about being fans of CR we all would just shrug at the edit and go drink a couple Coors and sing Queen of Memphis and enjoy the show. Why would Black Diamond alter the album cover? Are they trying to troll these folks or was this a misguided attempt by someone to calm things down? I am assuming they were using the image on promotional material. Why not just use a picture of the band like literally every other promoter does. It would be a much easier way to avoid any consternation over the stars and bars. Second, why the heck is everyone complaining? It is a private venue so they can do whatever they want to promote the show. Even if there is a copyright issue that is between the band and the venue. This whole debacle makes it look like these folks devour their own for not holding fast to some ridiculous ideological purity surrounding the stars and bars. I am done with this ridiculousness.

  34. The Calvin sticker reminds me of lettering I saw on the back of a truck last week. It read, “Embrace Nationalism.”
    All I could think of was Darth Vader saying, “Come to the Dark Side.”

  35. Dear Debbie Frick…who do you mean when you say “our” historic monuments? Illinois was a union state, you remember? The stars and bars was not our flag, nor was Lee our General. Or are you loging in from Mississippi?

  41. =Why would Black Diamond alter the album cover?=

    So they can have their cake and eat it too. They want the rabid Facebook crowd to show up but they don’t want to deal with the inevitable consequences.

  42. “April 9, 1865…marks 154 years of sore losing…apparently.”

    To some families the civil war is recent history. There is a 2017 US News and World Report article about an 87 year old woman who is collecting her father’s $73.13/month civil war pension. The Smithsonian Magazine has an article which says that the last of the civil war veterans were dying as late as the 1950’s.

    154 years is enough time for oral histories to be handed down to great grand children. The bitterness of the war can still be felt in the bones of those who lost homes, farms, and livelihoods.

    Comment by Huh? Thursday, Jul 25, 19 @ 12:56 pm

  43. Huh?

    Oral history has likely been passed down from the ancestors of slaves as well. And I don’t know any daughters of slaves still collecting a pension. Those flag wavers love to disparage the continued “bitterness” black Americans have towards the confederate flag. So please spare me.

    Comment by Baloneymous Thursday, Jul 25, 19 @ 1:08 pm

  44. The debate regarding the substitution of the flags also raises a larger issue. Are these fans of the band or fans of the flag? Seems more like the later based on the comments and the reaction. And if the music was got people interested would it really matter if they changed the logo? Would people stop going to Stones concerts if they decided to drop the tongue?

    Comment by Pundent Thursday, Jul 25, 19 @ 1:14 pm

  45. ===Are these fans of the band or fans of the flag? ===

    Seems pretty clear to me what the real issue is with many of these folks. And it ain’t the flag or the band.

    Someone ought to be there to make audiovisual footage, for campaign purposes and social media. Ask people too if it’s unpatriotic and un-American to display the Stars and Bars, so we can see sputtering, twisted rants.
