Hey there –
Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot is facing serious backlash after she was caught on a hot mic calling a Chicago police official a “clown.”
When asked to apologize for her comment, Lightfoot begrudgingly responded, “I’m sorry that I said it out loud.” Really?
Illinois socialists Cheri “Beltway” Bustos, Sean Casten and Fake Nurse Lauren Underwood have yet to comment on Lightfoot’s despicable remarks, which begs the question:
Will Bustos, Casten and Underwood condemn Lightfoot’s comment? Or will they stand with Chicago’s Mayor in disrespecting a 30-year veteran police officer in one of America’s most violent cities?
Whew.
* The New York Times explains the over the top rhetoric…
The chairman of the House Intelligence Committee is portrayed as wearing clown makeup. Democratic congressional candidates — including an Air Force combat veteran — are labeled “socialist losers” or anti-Semites. Others have been singled out as Lyin’ Lucy McBath, Fake Nurse Lauren Underwood, Little Max Rose and China Dan McCready.
The National Republican Congressional Committee, with the blessing of House Republican leaders, has adopted a no-holds-barred strategy to win back the House majority next year, borrowing heavily from President Trump’s playbook in deploying such taunts and name-calling. After losing 40 seats and the House majority in November, Representative Tom Emmer of Minnesota, the committee’s new chairman, and Representative Kevin McCarthy of California, the Republican leader, decided that their messaging needed to be ruthless. Ms. Underwood, Democrat of Illinois, is “Fake Nurse Lauren.” (Ms. Underwood, who earned a bachelor’s degree in nursing from the University of Michigan and worked as a research nurse, never worked specifically with patients.) Representative Collin C. Peterson, Democrat of Minnesota, is “Cranky Collin.”

The New York Times recently confirmed that Fake Nurse Lauren Underwood “never worked specifically with patients.” Yet, in an interview weeks before the 2018 election, she lied directly to the camera, saying “I, as a nurse, have looked into my patients’ eyes.”
Yikes.

Sexist Sean Casten doesn’t think women belong in rooms where impactful decisions are being made. He also believes the best protectors of women’s rights are… men. Specifically himself.
In a fundraising email, Sexist Sean warns Illinoisans that if his challenger - Evelyn Sanguinetti - wins, a Latina woman will be in “those rooms where decisions are made that will impact our nation,” (terrible!) and goes on to presume she wouldn’t protect women’s rights.
NRCC Comment: “Sean Casten is a sexist misogynist who doesn’t think women, especially Latina women, belong in rooms where big decisions are being made. Blatantly fundraising off his misogyny is a new tactic for sexist Sean and we look forward to seeing how it works out in 2020.” -NRCC Spokeswoman Carly Atchison
They’re entertaining to read, but are news organizations actually publishing them? I checked some of their quotes on Google and it doesn’t look like it. So, they’re apparently just shouting into an abyss for now. Maybe outlets will start picking them up as the election nears.

Well, when the leader of your party (i.e. the President of the United States) is Tweeting out similar langauge on a daily basis why not follow his lead? I’m sure such language might even be required now.

A nurse, during training, will in fact look into a patient’s eyes, so it’s not a lie. Not that facts matter.

It could be that those who object to such language are the very people who are running away from today’s version of the GOP. Trump and his ilk are an example of everything those so-called religious folks are taught NOT to be/do. “See you in church” indeed.

Outside of safe districts full of base voters, is there any evidence this approach has worked for any one but Trump since 2016?

Parker Molloy at Media Matters was just talking about right-wing distortion and propaganda, and how effective it is. Basically, you act in bad faith from the start, you have enough cohorts to blast out the lie in bad faith, the people conditioned to believe the bad-faith actors embrace the lie because said actors have built their reputations as the only real truth-tellers.
When this machine comes for you, you can either ignore the lie and let it grow and mutate, or you can challenge the lie, taking yourself off-message to do so, and letting the lie get amplified, facing only meek challenges or quiet corrections in the mainstream. This brand of attack has become too big to fail, so they go with what they know works.

It’s about keeping white rural folk angry, and “passively” pointing out that bullying one that you usually could find disagreement with is wholly acceptable.
This is why families aren’t taking much about politics.
This is why twitter and Facebook must have like-minded friends.
This is why forcing angst and anger towards others “not like us” manifests into greater dangers, and less accepting of civil discourse.
You have folks now, openly, questioning one’s citizenship, lineage, making remarks so vile, our terrible history in the south is revered as again a desired want now.
I’ve said this before, racist exist. Racism has always existed.
This idea that it’s a Republican thing, yeah, the GOP is embracing while saluting it.
Here’s the thing before y’all Democrats embrace that thought. After the Civil Rights Act passed in 1964, you lost your southern foothold. As a party, the racist found no quarter, and there it is.
Racism isn’t a party thing as Republicans embrace that today, it’s now that racists found a party, like the Democrats before that allowed them to exist… but now because of Trump, they feel embolden to be overt.
These emails, this discourse, this devolving is only new as to it’s want to *be* the symbol of any leader of any party.
Republicans aren’t remotely off the hook, for me, if anything these vile emails only reinforce a need for myself to take a look at my thoughts, my beliefs, what I want my politics to be.
This idea any party is a religion, and a religion bent on corrupting America and what we should stand for, and be angered at our great American Experiment…
…that’s Trump destroying my country… far more than any party destroying the politics.
That’s these emails to me.
History won’t be kind to enablers. Words and “tweets” or whatever is left after this next year, of the next 5 years… we need a move back towards knowing the American Experiment is worth the fight against the repulsive things others want as a new American norm.
Vote as though the future matters, because if you look around, or read these emails… you know that it most needs us now.

Have you heard the ad for “The Center Square” on WMAY? They’re pushing the “non-biased, non-partisan” line hard in their advertising. It’d be laughable but for the number of people who will buy into it.
