*** UPDATED x1 *** False advertising?

Posted in:

* Illinois Republican Party fundraising email…

Recently, Illinois Democrat State Senator Martin Sandoval, an outspoken critic of President Trump, was caught hosting an event where pictures were taken of a staged assassination of President Trump.

We can not and will not let this dangerous act stand. We must send the message to all Democrats that this despicable act will not be tolerated. We must defeat Sandoval next November!

Take a look at the photos that were shared on social media…

We hope you are as appalled as we are. Please help the Illinois Republican Party continue to demand Senator Sandoval’s resignation and ultimately, his defeat next November.

Will you help us stand against horrific acts like this? Will you help us send a message and defeat Sandoval?

While the secret service is aware and looking into the possible threat, we can’t only rely on that to hold Sandoval accountable for promoting violence against the President. Donate NOW to help us defeat Sandoval in next year’s election!

Your help is appreciated,
Team ILGOP

I’m thinking they’re not going to use even one thin dime of that cash to fund an opponent against Sandoval, unless they decide to back a Democratic primary candidate. JB Pritzker won the district by 53 percentage points, Hillary Clinton won it by 52 points.

*** UPDATE *** It gets even better. A sharp-eyed commenter pointed out that Sandoval is in the midst of a four-year term and isn’t even up for reelection next year. Hilarious.

  1. If you’re going to fundraise off the incident, you honestly should have a candidate in place that you will help, and be committed to, defeat the legislator in question.

Right now, everyone is seemingly so broke they can’t even pay attention let alone pay to defeat Sandoval.

  2. Somebody acted like an idiot!

    So give us some money!

    Kinda loose connection there.

  3. According to the State Board of Elections Sandoval’s district (11th District) is NOT on the ballot in 2020.

    State Senators (10 ILCS 5/29C-15), Districts: 1, 4, 7, 10, 13, 16, 19, 22, 25, 28, 31, 34, 37, 40, 43, 46, 49, 52, 55, 58

  5. ===According to the State Board of Elections Sandoval’s district (11th District) is NOT on the ballot in 2020.===

Then I guess finding a real opponent for Sandoval in 2020 will be even more difficult…

  6. OW

Don’t be negative here . Hope springs eternal . Martin may win by only 10 points.

  7. Speaking of false advertising, yesterday Mark Batinick started pushing a new survey he claims is about property taxes. He’s asking people to fill out the 5-question survey about property taxes.

One question is vaguely about property taxes. The other 4 are the following; Your First Name, Your Last Name, Your address, your email address. Those count as questions in this 5-question survey on property taxes.

While amusing, it’s clearly an email harvesting attempt.

The GOP’S intentions do not matter; you make hay while the sun shines. This issue will be hot for a week at the most.

  9. - {Sigh} -

    Well done…

I blame myself trusting the ILGOP to understand how the staggered Senate seats work.

    That’s on me.

  10. Well, since “Fire Madigan” was such a success…

Comment by Skeptic Thursday, Aug 22, 19 @ 1:28 pm

  11. Claim that IL GOP is a “party” is really false advertising. Shocker these buffoons have pretty much lost everything there is to lose in Illinois.

Comment by GOPgal Thursday, Aug 22, 19 @ 1:34 pm

  12. Maybe it’s disingenuously genius?

“Sure, we fibbed, but don’t we get credit for the ingenuity?”

    That’s fun.

Comment by Oswego Willy Thursday, Aug 22, 19 @ 1:35 pm

  13. “Meh. Look at the bright side. We can’t lose an election for a seat not up, amirite?”

    - ILGOP, maybe

  14. ===can not and will not let this dangerous act stand. We must send the message…that this despicable act will not be tolerated.===

I assume the ILGOP was just as outraged when Ted Nugent said that President Obama could “suck on my machine gun;” and said Obama should be “hung;” and that Nugent would either be “dead or in jail” after the 2012 election.

Comment by Steve Rogers Thursday, Aug 22, 19 @ 1:37 pm

  15. Is it misleading? Sure. Not the first misleading fundraising letter, won’t be the last.

    Comment by CubsFan16 Thursday, Aug 22, 19 @ 1:41 pm

  16. ===Not the first misleading fundraising letter===

Including the update, it’s one of the most misleading fundraising appeals I’ve ever seen.

Comment by Rich Miller Thursday, Aug 22, 19 @ 1:42 pm

  17. Yes, because all of those Dem mailers that claim Republican legislative candidates will cut Social Security and Medicare are on the up-and-up…

It’s politics, of course there’s hyperbole to a fundraising email. Have you seen the crap the DCCC or the NRCC puts out everyday?

… Rauner ran away from Trump… until, in costume, Rauner tried to see Trump downstate.

    The point?

While without question, it’s a vile thing these pictures. Trump still polls poorly.

Just an FYI, Moscow Mitch (and other R’s) has given interviews saying that the problem IS Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid. If you don’t know, a major part of Medicaid gets paid out to Nursing homes for working and middle class seniors.

Comment by Union Thug Gramma Thursday, Aug 22, 19 @ 5:58 pm

  36. Oswego Willy - the Illinois House Democrats routinely run campaigns on saving Social Security and Medicare — two issues that the Illinois General Assembly has zero policy making authority. But, it works to raise money and get people fired up. I trust you’ll have similar snide comments to make when DPI brings those issues up again in 2020.

  37. ===…the Illinois House Democrats routinely run campaigns on saving Social Security and Medicare — two issues that the Illinois General Assembly has zero policy making authority===

… and yet, it was Proft’s news agency that highlighted that, a sweet irony to honesty.

    Are we doing “whataboutisms”?

“I can be ethically challenged, because they are?”

Still makes you just as ethically challenged, but ya feel better?

=== But, it works to raise money and get people fired up.===

I don’t think i said “hey, good for them” during those times. Yeah, I’m pretty sure I didn’t do that.

===I trust you’ll have similar snide comments to make when DPI brings those issues up again in 2020.===

Hmm. I’m pretty sure I will. Considering I have in the past, even when it was ironically brought up by Proft.

All this pearl clutching about “my” take.

Use the google. Odds are, y’all will find what I wrote, lol

  38. Also, - Just Me -

Is it gross incompetence or willful deception this ILGOP thingy and Sandoval not even being on the ballot?

As pathetic as they’ve been, maybe it *is* both? Their gross incompetence can’t fathom the irony of purposeful deception?

    Who knows.
