Speaker Madigan again busts the caps on his personal campaign account

Posted in:

* The Illinois House Speaker contributed $100,001 today to Friends of Michael J. Madigan. Under state law, his personal committee can now accept unlimited contributions. Madigan did the same thing in 2018, but that was in the months leading up to the general election. Click here for the fresh A-1.

As we’ve already discussed, Madigan’s been spending a lot of money on legal fees this year. But this is also probably a good indication that he’s serious about expanding his partisan margin and protecting his members next year - in both the primary and general elections.

…Adding… In other campaign news…

Milestone: We just surpassed 500,000 voters registered since Illinois' Automatic Voter Registration law went into effect in July 2018.

  3. This is a little more than an eyebrow raising moment.

Lots of fronts Madigan is fighting, legal fees included.

With Trump on the ticket, with the GOP divided, with “Magnificent 7” phonies and Raunerite disciples, the HDems and the Democratic Party could still drill deep into past GOP bastions.

So… get some cash, line up the primary issues needing answering, get the general election touchstones ready with cash at the ready.

As I was reminded by Rich yesterday, the HGOP is broke. Madigan isn’t the type to give quarter when weakness is shown.

The Dems can bury Raunerites and Trumpkins in the areas ripest for Dems, and make the Raunerists a regional party, angry, white, rural… and Trumpy.

The GOP better realize that this 2020 is a chance to be reborn away from Raunerism and Trump and focus on 2022 with a real chance to regroup. That’s my hope.

Madigan sees things ripe. Madigan also sees things need cash. This is how it begins.
