It is, in fact, a list. Organized by bill number, and so very hard for a layman to parse.
If they want something useful to the general public, it should be organized by topic, not bill number.

I agree with Chris. The idea is sound and the need is there to apprise Illinoisans of new laws that might affect them. The execution of the list however is not good. Do better.

It’s a working document that is incredibly useful to anyone who has the slightest inkling of how the process works. Stop complaining that you are not being spoon fed and told what to think.

Case in point - The tweet mentions “tip” twice, yet the word “tip” appears nowhere in the list of new laws. The list has it under “gratuity”. But then it references “HB 03405″, yet the General Assembly website has only 4-digit house bills.
Fumbling basic communications does not instill confidence. To poorly paraphrase Seinfeld, “and you wanna be my income tax calculator?”

It is a good start though. There is a “topic” item after the bill number. Scrolling down the topics I found a couple of my favorites, “pensions”. HB 03082: requires new state hires to be enrolled in deferred comp with a 3% payroll deduction. Employee can opt out or adjust contribution after 6 months. Makes good sense. Wish that was a law 30 years ago when I first started.

I’m confused. Contributions to the state’s deferred compensation plan is 3% pre-tax. But contributions made under Illinois Secure Choice Savings Program are post-tax. Why does one party get a tax deduction and the other doesn’t?

Wonder why that dosent apply to other workers. A friend of mine knows of a car wash were the owner keeps all the tips.

Though the full list is a little jumbled, I really like the slideshow they always post. It’s a quick, witty synopsis of the most interesting bills.

Know this sounds old school… carry enough cash to tip the servers and use the credit card for the bill. Use cabs not Uber/Lyft and always pay in cash and tip.

I always tip in cash. 20% rounded up to nearest dollar at a minimum

Just what we need in Illinois: more stuff that works for those in the know, and is opaque to the other 90%.
