  4. The primary is three weeks from today. In the 14th congressional district, the Republican primary race is clearly a 2-person race between Jim Oberweis and Sue Rezin, as campaign spending and internal polling reveals.

The other 5 candidates are on the ballot, but the best they can do is play spoiler since all but one, Ted Gradel, have very little money. And all Gradel’s money will do is play spoiler, too.

So who will finish 1st in the 14th in 3 weeks? Oberweis or Rezin?

  5. === Republican primary race is clearly a 2-person race===

Last polling had Rezin down 30 points, and Oberweis hitting a 46% threshold in a 6 person field.

Do you have any hard numbers, polling, information that has shown a 30 point gap shrinking, or Oberweis, in a 6 person field, dropping from 46%?

Hope is not a strategy. Any information to show this is tightening would be enlightening

I’d think someone down 30 points three weeks ago, and closing the gap would drop information proving such momentum.

    Thanks.

  6. @AI - Weld is not on the GOP primary ballot. Trump has a nominal challenger who did not slate delegates - Rocky de la Fuente.

  7. ChopperJim with a lead? Did these people suffer a nasty fall? oh well he will lose inNovember so why worry

  8. When you are 30 points ahead, you do not run attack ads against your opponent by name on TV commercials, or send negative mailers.

Between those two FACTS, and Rezin being endorsed by the Tribune and the Daily Herald, the Oberweis camp is spooked and have reacted accordingly.

Strategy is not a fact.. You may want it to be, but it isn’t.

Paper endorsements are like yard signs, they don’t vote, and are only good (like with Lightfoot this last time) within striking distance.

Be well. I’m taking a much needed nap.

  10. I am very curious how many people have early voted so far in Illinois and if there are lots waiting to see who might drop out after Super Tuesday. I went to early vote the day after the last Dem debate and was told early voting was very slow in my neck of the woods.

  11. Pretty spoiled about Illinois pro sports, with Chicago championships, and having winning withdrawal. Must have winning. Looking forward the White Sox season that’s full of promise for the future.

  12. Early voting is way too early. A week before the election is early enough to schedule your voting for a convenient time. Especially for a primary.

  13. “With zero percent of votes counted, nobody has won the election!” –Newsies hyping Election 2020.
Winning Chicago teams? Most likely not the Bears; Pace spoke today of Mitch’s skills and development; compared Mitch to Drew Breeze(??); Pace is delusional or lying about Mitch’s future.
As for Spring coming, that’s after my flowers try to sprout, then it snows again.

Unless you’re in Springfield or elsewhere particularly east-northeast. At least 2-4 inches expected by tomorrow afternoon in Springfield; at least 3-6 in Bloomington. Springfield already had less than an inch of a heavy wet, slushy snow–with the biggest flakes I’ve ever seen–during this morning’s commute.

The Twp folks I know are all, reluctantly, pushing Jim fully knowing he will be crushed by Underwood. They are just paying back past debts.

  17. Rod’s ARDC hearing to try to keep his law license was this morning. Didn’t bother to show up, which is an aggravating factor in punishment. Couldn’t argue against the fact that he was convicted, but sent his criminal defense lawyer to… argue against his convictions.

  18. With all that white hair, maybe Blago can star in Medicare Advantage commercials. Will put his reality television experience to good use.

  19. If Oberweis wins that seems to almost assure that the DEMS will retain this seat.

This used to be a pretty solid Republican area but it has been redistricted and now has about a 13% Hispanic vote (and growing).

This Hispanic vote is easily the tipping point it what otherwise might be a close election. And Oberweis is a poor candidate who often puts his foot in his mouth.
