At a fundraiser Thursday, party Chairman Bill LeFew told supporters that he would resign within 60 days. He said that was because a pending investigation into State’s Attorney Louis Bianchi would force him to choose between his position as county treasurer and Republican chairman.
A letter was sent Thursday to both the attorney general’s office and the Chicago Crime Commission, calling for an investigation into Bianchi, LeFew said. He declined to say who sent the letter. Officials from the Chicago Crime Commission, which generally investigates mob activity, declined to comment Friday.

But those “incorrect practices,” 25 of them in a 110-page paper, ought to be allowed to be fixed and SIU President Glenn Poshard should be able complete a new dissertation, the panel said. And the old document should be removed from the SIU Library and replaced with the “corrected” version.
In other words, Poshard gets a big, fat do-over, history is rewritten and the president of the university is given an extraordinary break from a group with an obvious conflict of interest that no one else would get.
And Southern Illinois University’s already diminished academic reputation takes another hit.

It’s just too bad you didn’t have enough commitment to this idea to step up and run your own campaign for mayor.
Look, don’t get too full of yourself: I’m not saying people see you as a savior. I’m not denying that lots of people can’t stand you simply because you have the name Jesse Jackson. I’m not saying you or anyone could get into position to beat Daley in an election.
But I do think that there’s a pretty good chance that if you stopped waffling and started to consistently show that you’re in this fight, you’d win a lot of respect and support. People might even decide they like you a little.

That was a good post by the Clout City blog. Perhaps Rep. Jackson might need to really put his feet in the fire. That or realize that he let his big chance go by.

I want to see JJJ run. He could give the mayor a run for his money.
But the clout city article is right. JJJ needs to commit to running and show that he wants it. Try taking a noisy, public stand on the things that the mayor is so loathe to address.
And keep making noise. There’s plenty of problems in this city to exploit.

If Daley doens not win the Olympics bid, then my opinion is that he won’t run for re-election again.

Marin didn’t mention that David Kalbfleisch is also running for this office.
Mick Dumke wrote, “I’m not sure anyone but a skilled, shrewd, aggressive, and—to be blunt—extremely self-confident politician can face off with Daley and his political operation.”
Daley is definitely all of these things; and in my opinion, one of the things that demonstrates this is the Green “veneer” that Daley has been putting on all throughout the city. Here is a man that sees a future potential challenge to his candidacy and seeks to preempt it before it actually occurs.
Fran Spielman wrote, “If Mayor Daley continues to refuse to release the names of Chicago Police officers most often accused of excessive force, he may be compelled to do so by a rare City Council order, four aldermen said Friday.”
Kudos to these four aldermen on this stand.

jjj Knows that there is to much baggage in his closet to go up against daley. When daley quits or is carried out of office feet first(like his dad) thats when jjj will run. jjj has done a good job of staying clear of alot of his dads issues, but jjj has made some enemys like the strogers and the shaws that will split the black vote.

Junior is looking for the sure thing. He ought to know that there is no such thing in politics. I am not a fan of Obama’s but he took it to the streets and has done very well.

Realistically I don’t think JJJ had any chance in heck of defeating Daley,so I don’t think there was any real point in running, when your defeat was guaranteed.I think he was wise to defer running. but you do have to take a reasonable risk sooner or later.
