Act like you’re already a carrier

All of Georgia’s state lawmakers were urged Wednesday to self-isolate themselves for weeks after a state senator who participated in a Monday vote disclosed he tested positive for the disease caused by coronavirus.

State Sen. Brandon Beach said he was screened for the disease Saturday when he sought medical attention for a cough and mild fever, but that the test results didn’t arrive until Wednesday.

In between, the Alpharetta Republican said he felt healthy enough to join dozens of legislators, staff members and reporters for a one-day special legislative session at the Capitol to grant Gov. Brian Kemp broad powers to respond to the pandemic.

The positive test triggered emails from Lt. Gov. Geoff Duncan and House Speaker David Ralston recommending that all 236 state lawmakers, as well as dozens of staffers from both chambers, quarantine themselves through March 30.

  1. Petty pet peeve…’self-isolate yourself/themselves’ is a redundancy I’m seeing in print a lot.

  2. We were already self isolating as much as we can, but today we received a phone call that one of our very elderly (close to 100) church member’s is showing some of the symptoms. Doctor has advised her to just stay home for now since they aren’t real severe. So we have even more reason to stay isolated.

Idiot! Symptomatic enough to be tested means stay home until you get results showing your’re negative. YOU may “feel healthy”, but that doesn’t mean you’re not spreading it.

  4. Daughter just came back from hospital. She had problems breathing and Covid-19 symptoms. She does not meet criteria for testing, which requires contact with someone who has tested positive. With so few tests being done, they cannot track the disease.

I am in my room praying she recovers completely. Not sure if self quarantine is the right word. More like wife enforced quarantine.

  5. Got groceries on Monday, voted on Tuesday. That’s been it. Take a walk every few hours through the neighborhood. I feel perfectly fine but that’s not the point.

Lawmakers need to lead by example. Otherwise it’s no big deal. Unfortunately we’re only a few weeks removed from being told that this was a hoax and things would be better very soon. Fortunately some people have pivoted but not all and not enough.

  6. Best thing on the internet today:
Don’t alter your behavior to avoid being infected:
assume you ARE infected, and alter your behavior to avoid infecting others.
