The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) today announced 488 new cases of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in Illinois, including eight deaths. Approximately 86% of fatalities are among patients 60 years of age and older.
Bureau, Henry, and Iroquois counties are now reporting cases. Currently, IDPH is reporting a total of 3,026 cases, including 34 deaths, in 40 counties in Illinois. The age of cases ranges from younger than one to 99 years.

About 5000 new tests, indicating private testing is coming online, which is good.
1 in 7 testing positive, which is not good.

That is not a useful distinction.

I don’t understand why this is meaningful at all. These aren’t randomized tests. In fact, many times you have to be pretty ill to get a test performed.

You’re basing that on 86% over 60? We don’t know the comorbidities of the 5 under 60 victims. Maybe they were all immunocompromised, which is also high risk.

Being under 60 doesn’t mean low risk. You can be under 60 and a: transplant recipient; cancer patient undergoing treatment; asthma sufferer; live in a long-term care facility; and / or have a serious heart conditions.

We’re down to a 14% positive overall test rate from over 15% yesterday.

Low risk is still risk.
Our criteria and availability of testing also skews our results towards persons in critical conditions along with celebrities and NBA players that may have shown zero symptoms.
So our data isn’t really the best at determining risks for specific demographic groups.

Wondering why Thursday’s positive test reported by Jefferson County and Friday’s death reported by St. Clair County aren’t reflected on the IDPH website?
