Cannabis sales held steady in March

Posted in:

* Pretty remarkable considering the circumstances…

The Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation has announced preliminary numbers show statewide adult-use cannabis sales in March totaled $35,902,543.22. Dispensaries across the state sold 812,203 items over the 31-day period. Sales to Illinois residents totaled $27,096,931.23, while sales to out-of-state residents totaled $8,805,611.99. These figures do not include taxes collected. A portion of every cannabis sale will be reinvested in communities harmed most by the failed war on drugs.

February sales were $35 million in February and $39.2 million in January.

  2. This was why… home grow…particularly for the homebound elderly folks who can not easily access cannabis products available elsewhere only by way of travel…time to make it right.

  4. According to a Bloomberg article, demand for cannabis products is similar to alcohol products. And that demand is inelastic during economic downturns. Illinois legalized Marijuana at just the right time to supplement income during this pandemic. So for once, Illinois caught a break.

  9. This industry is proving itself right now.

Delivery needs to be sped up. These places are actually going to be hiring.

More dispensaries should be opened in the next 6 months even if we’re still dealing with a shutdown.

  10. What else are Illinoisans supposed to do when home all day and not working? I’m half kidding, half not - a few hits can be a nice motivator to get some things done around the house, or maybe spur a creative project.

  12. Being forced to order ahead and pick up in given appointment windows meant that the companies have finally gotten in gear to make their recreational inventory available on their website. Particularly valuable with Sunnyside who, in my one visit, steered me to Cresco vape cartridges without even mentioning products from other vendors. Everything is still expensive but variety is improving.
