Some dummies will believe absolutely anything they see on social media

* This phony post was plastered all over Facebook and Twitter yesterday…

Yeah. JB and MK hanging out with Jack Franks in Wisconsin on Saturday. Right. Toooooooootally believable.

The Franks bit should be your first clue. The man has been banned from the Statehouse. Pritzker is a super-cautious dude. Do you really think he’d go openly partying in Cheeseland with that guy? If you do, you really need to check yourself.

Also, notice that they were standing in front of Gordy’s. Here’s another photo from the same day last year supplied by the governor’s office…

  1. It’s pretty clear to me that JB and Franks meet regularly in Fontana, and always wear the same clothes at their meetings to avoid detection. Soros makes them do it.

  2. I am mostly disturbed by the fact the governor would go to Gordy’s instead of Chuck’s.

  3. People are going to believe what they want, facts notwithstanding.

  4. Pretty soon I’ll be able to join those rich guys. I’m helping out a Nigerian prince who’s in a pinch and he’s going to repay me handsomely.

    Not everybody is that stupid.

  6. So he did go partying in Cheeseland with “that guy” just last year?

  7. More of a Mar’s Bar guy myself.

  8. Contrarian, nobody knew that Franks was banned from the Statehouse last year. Even, to hear him tell it, Franks.

    Comment by Rich Miller Monday, Jun 1, 20 @ 12:55 pm

  9. Fontana, WI. Only 22 miles up the road from Marengo.

    You would think that Franks would be more likely to want to hang out around Rauner (as well as Dunkin and Drury) than he would JB.

  10. Facebook is super helpful at exposing the gullible idiots, the closet racists, the Fox News watchers, among my circle of “friends.” I can’t tell if it’s a feature or a bug, but most of the really stupid people among my FB friends tend to embrace the status and revel in it. When you point out they are sharing something clearly false, some of them simply double down. It’s really quite something.

    Here’s a tip for FB users: don’t ever share anything you haven’t produced yourself. Family photos, photos of your dinner, rants you write that summarize your feelings about a particular topic at a particular moment. Then own it.

    Too often, we outsource our emotions to FB and share something we have no idea who made it or why. It just kind of “speaks to us.” Don’t outsource your brain, don’t let others manipulate you into manipulating others.

    Don’t share. Ever. Or you’re only helping the Russians who are trolling all of us all of the time on social media.

  11. ===Not everybody is that stupid. ===

    Sometimes it’s not about stupidity or intelligence, folks are often shopping for the justification for the position they already have.

    Someone that would see this photo and be outraged at the Governor was just looking for an excuse to be outraged.

    That’s how this kind of propaganda workers — but the question should really be about who benefits from making this, who benefits from sharing it, and who benefits from the outrage?

    The only thing that is a “both sides” concern right now is the amount of content Russian troll farms are pumping out to fuel the extremes of both sides.

    Our civil society isn’t just played like a fiddle, it’s played like a tuned fiddle in the vacuum left by the absence of our national leadership.

  12. Candy Dogood. I couldn’t agree more, “folks are often shopping for the justification for the position they already have.” P.S. Is that Oswego Willy looking through the window.

    While I don’t miss a chance to go to Lake Geneva, odds are I was in Galena. :)

    To the post,

    Have I mistakenly passed information from the intertubes? Yep, guilty. When I have, i reach out to whom I got that from to alert them, so they can stop as well.

    Something like this? Nope, I woulda mocked and laugh off for any number of things, be it Franks, or the realization I’ve seen the Governor all these day… in Chicago.

    I try to do my diligence. Doesn’t mean in the future, and it’ll happen, I’ll get fooled again.

    Just not with this. Nope.

  14. Oh, how I despise social media, such as FB, Twitter, etc. I do get my most of my news online, but I’m uber careful from which sites I get it. I don’t tweet, do/comment on FB, etc., and I plan to keep it that way. I’ve enough headaches and chaos in my life. Heck, why add more unnecessarily? Certain things I do have control over…

    Definitely in agreement with you here Opinion guy.

    While I love Mars also I think even JB would have a hard time getting there on his boat from his dock.

  17. Pretty disappointing they low balled and said it was WI. Why not shoot for Florida?

  18. I was listening to ESPN radio some guy called in to complain about the governor not doing job because he was in Wisconsin over the weekend. I don’t know but maybe Facebook and Twitter should be considered a utility and be regulated. Something is wrong at least legacy press tried for honest reporting and would issue a correction
    As to Franks being a give away. Rich gives too much credit. Maybe readers of this site except me would recognize his picture but most would not. I know of him but would not recognize him.

  19. I followed some of the ugliness of Saturday and Sunday night on Twitter. Suffice it to say that there is enough real, disgusting video and other content about what’s happening that there is no need whatsoever to be fabricating material.

  20. “maybe Facebook and Twitter should be considered a utility and be regulated.”

    Which is why I totally support the president’s social media EO. He is 100% right. And I can’t wait until he gets bitten for it.

  21. People don’t look to social media for news, they turn to it for affirmation.

    Comment by Pundent Monday, Jun 1, 20 @ 2:58 pm

  22. Don’t bother me with the facts, I’ve already made up my mind. I’ve even found confirmation on social media.

  23. I don’t believe you. Not trusting because of your political ties to the Democratic Party.

    Where was he? You seem to know all about him- so tell us where was he the other day??

  24. === I don’t believe you.===

    “Ok”, lol

    Facts aren’t of your liking? “I don’t believe you”

    You came all the way here… so you can say you don’t believe a fact?

    Whew.

  25. == This phony post was plastered all over Facebook and Twitter yesterday… ==

    It’s still circulating tonight. Surprised that Facebook isn’t fact checking it like they have done other items. I’m seeing posts from people that are normally more skeptical.

    Makes me appreciate the mostly objective reporting here.

    Comment by RNUG Monday, Jun 1, 20 @ 10:41 pm

  26. What facts? You have not provided any facts regarding his whereabouts while the city was burning. Zero. Believe the media less and less. You guys hide and twist facts all the time- again Why don’t you answer the question - Where was he?

    Comment by John Tuesday, Jun 2, 20 @ 12:55 am

  27. === Where was he?===

    In Chicago, giving briefings.
