  1. Bored. But boring is good, boring is safe.

Comment by Gruntled University Employee Tuesday, Jul 14, 20 @ 3:12 pm

  2. Doing well. Oldest daughter got married a couple weeks ago. Youngst is well. Garden is growing.

Thanks for asking. How about you?

Comment by Huh? Tuesday, Jul 14, 20 @ 3:14 pm

  3. Thinking about the way the world used to be, just a few months ago. Having strange dreams. Trying very hard to cope with this new reality. Finding some solace in the way fellow Illinoisans have responded to bring the COVID-19 numbers down, but we are battling an opposing force of no national plan and certain states reopening too soon.

  4. PS - is the fuel pump on the boat fixed yet?

  5. ===is the fuel pump on the boat fixed yet?===

No, but an end is in sight now.

  6. My kids are hyper worried about me. At first I was a little insulted, like they didn’t think I was smart enough to not go around licking doorknobs, but I realized they’re scared and feel the only thing they can control right now is my health. So I let my son spend 3 hours in a car running a ten minute errand for me. And I listen patiently while my daughter hits me with a firehose of unsolicited advice. She’s so much like me. But I love her and won’t tell her that until she has safe access to a good shrink.

Comment by Lake Cook Mom Tuesday, Jul 14, 20 @ 3:20 pm

  7. Huh?, your daughter and her new spouse have my best wishes.

Me? I’m okay. FYI, “First Cow” is excellent. Stream it if you can.

    Comment by Cheryl44 Tuesday, Jul 14, 20 @ 3:20 pm

  8. I’m on a tiny military quarantine tent complex in the New Mexico dessert, which is meh. Ready to be home and see my babies!

Comment by Liandro Tuesday, Jul 14, 20 @ 3:22 pm

  9. We’ve got COVID in the house. Family member tested positive two weeks ago and symptoms began a couple days later, severe headache, ear pain, hearing loss, sore throat, extreme fatigue. Also weird stuff that makes them think there are lingering changes in neuro and cardiac status that we need to investigate further but they dodged a hospital stay and for that we are grateful.

  10. I’m in a glass case of emotion.

  11. Yinn - keeping you and yours in my thoughts.

Comment by Lake County Mom Tuesday, Jul 14, 20 @ 3:36 pm

  12. we fine. The doctor son tested positive for antibodies. Asymptomatic to a tee. Temperature taken twice a day at hospital. Crazy. He had to drop out of the wash u study.

Comment by Blue Dog Dem Tuesday, Jul 14, 20 @ 3:43 pm

  13. Oldest went back to college in Arizona today. She’s an ROTC Midshipman and is the squad leader for 3rd squad of incoming Freshman.
As she drove away in her car, I became emotional. Tucson is a hot spot for Covid and school is a high risk activity. I know her CO will do everything to protect them but it’s a lot to worry about.

Comment by Honeybear Tuesday, Jul 14, 20 @ 3:44 pm

  14. best of luck honey. Will keep her in our prayer chain.

  15. Slowly losing my mind

    Comment by Anon E Moose Tuesday, Jul 14, 20 @ 3:47 pm

  16. Doing well. My wife and kids are doing well. They told me I was made for quarantine. Give me a grill, a beer, a cigar and of course a pool and I can stay in the backyard forever.

Comment by pool boy Tuesday, Jul 14, 20 @ 3:53 pm

  17. Getting very grumpy with people who don’t wear a mask or don’t wear it properly (nose uncovered). Now making a list of businesses I will no longer patronize.

Comment by very old soil Tuesday, Jul 14, 20 @ 3:56 pm

  18. I hope everyone is weathering well. I have been busy, hospital and clinics still need services. I have done my best to avoid some hotspots, but that is not always possible. Regardless of where my job takes me I practice the same hygiene I always have, but the mask is added.

I am as much for individual rights as can be, but I wear a mask and wish more people would take it serious. I don’t know anyone who has had this virus, nor do I know if I have crossed paths with someone who has in the airports, clinics, hospitals, hotels, rental car renters before me or anywhere else. But I am not gambling on the mortality rate, I am doing what I can do not to get sick or get someone else sick. I am also planning for the next virus that may come.

Comment by FormerParatrooper Tuesday, Jul 14, 20 @ 3:56 pm

  19. So far, safe and sound. Don’t personally know anyone who has contracted the virus. Wearing a mask anytime we go among people outside our house. About half the people I see in stores here in Effingham County are wearing them.

  20. Having my groceries and prescriptions delivered today reminded me of all the great people in my life and how lucky I am. Very good antidote to reading about the jerks.

Comment by Rachel Tuesday, Jul 14, 20 @ 3:59 pm

  21. Venturing in for my annual (bit delayed) physical tomorrow. Will be asking about the shingles vaccine everyone is recommending.

    Comment by 44th Tuesday, Jul 14, 20 @ 3:59 pm

  22. We just spent our summer vacation at Lake Shelbyville. We got a VRBO in the country with no neighbors within 1/4 mile. We ate that fine Casey’s pizza and watched quail, purple martins, even bald eagles. The state parks there were empty. It was surprising for the week after the 4th.

Comment by Rayne of Terror Tuesday, Jul 14, 20 @ 4:01 pm

  23. The family is all good and healthy. A few friends have contracted it and my brother-in-law’s best friend (under 40) passed last week with COVID. Scary stuff. We bugged out to Michigan. Contemplating home schooling for the fall and if so, where to bug out to next.

Comment by Joe Bidenopolous Tuesday, Jul 14, 20 @ 4:10 pm

  24. We’re doing OK. I’m concerned because of the situation in Arizona, Texas. I had hoped that we would have a slower ramp up so we would know if we were about to get hammered again, but seems like theirs exploded within a week.

For me personally, still playing my clarinet and working on the German. The German to Spanish class is paying dividends. Thanks to 4 years of Spanish a lifetime ago along with the new material which has dusted off old braincells, I can now read Spanish language news sources.

  25. A bit down at the moment. It’s a long haul and a lot of pressure making sure people stay safe. New cases in my town–the grapevine identified two as recently returned from a vacation in Florida and having been at a local bar not wearing masks over the weekend. I was finally going to go risk getting a haircut but now I’m too paranoid about bringing the virus back to where I work. Then I question myself about whether my worries are reasonable or the result of my media diet. Then I get irritated with myself for being self involved. Then I got back to just worrying about getting done what needs doing.

Comment by Earnest Tuesday, Jul 14, 20 @ 4:21 pm

  26. Developed a small sore throat about four days ago. Going to be tested tomorrow- due to symptoms and age. Hoping to help out the state’s Positivity with my negativity. Otherwise we’re Ok- thanks for asking.

  27. Under treatment for a BP spike. Found low thyoid.
It is really interesting to be inn the system during a Pandemic.

  28. Life has a way of working out…don’t forget that life can change faster than the swish of a horse’s tail…chins up is always the right position.

Comment by Dotnonymous Tuesday, Jul 14, 20 @ 4:39 pm

  29. Family and myself are all covid-free so far. Wearing masks inside everywhere but home. Wish that my former political party hadn’t made the not wearing of masks a patriotic thing to do- once we leave the larger cities here in central Illinois, the large majority (75% or more) of others do not wear masks inside. Visited Champaign, Bloomington and Springfield hitting the estate sales, and all the sellers required masks (didn;t see anyone attempting to enter without, and saw at least 75% wearing them in public in those towns) It will catch up with the rural folks here in time, if what’s happening in the south and southwest USA are any indication of what’s to come .

Comment by Roadiepig Tuesday, Jul 14, 20 @ 4:50 pm

  30. Fine until I stupidly looked on FaceBook this morning. First post: a rant about how the death rates are faked, including a claim that someone died in a car crash in Champaign but COVID-19 was put as the cause of death. Ugh.

Comment by notsosure Tuesday, Jul 14, 20 @ 4:55 pm

  31. Bored beyond tears. Can’t date, can’t socialize face-to-face without hazmat gear, keep seeing people with no masks or noses hanging out of them in public, including business employees. Well, at least my lawn is cut and edged, and the new storm door should be up in a day or two (once the doorway is in the shade so I don’t get burned up).

  32. HB - will hold your daughter in the warm light of the supreme ruler of the universe. Understand the emotional reaction of sending your grownup baby into the wilderness. Warriors go to war. Keeping herself healthy will be a battle.

    Reef the tops’l.
    Steady on the helm.

  33. I got COVID and it sucks. Wouldnt wish it on any enemy both foreign or domestic. Keep wearing mask and social distance!

Comment by Julian Tuesday, Jul 14, 20 @ 5:32 pm

  34. Doing OK here. Thanks. Went and got a COVID-19 test this morning. I arrived at 7:30 and was at least the 25th car in line with 75 cars behind me. No symptoms, but was at one of the places that had an employee test positive. Hope you and yours are well.

  35. after a couple days of AC break, it’s back into the fire. cannot stand it. hey, at least we’re not Phoenix, Az.

Comment by Amalia Tuesday, Jul 14, 20 @ 6:07 pm

  36. Under stress. Parents stressed due to restrictions in assisted living. Others around me who seem to think I am their personal assistant. Need one of my own.

Very concerned with the number of restaurants and other employers who have positive employees. Annoyed with those who think wearing a mask is beneath them. Annoyed with the conspiracy theorists who think the government is trying to take all their rights away. What about my right to live?

Comment by thoughts matter Tuesday, Jul 14, 20 @ 6:11 pm

  37. Stressed. We’re all getting on each other’s nerves, and my 4-year-old has been crying a lot because she wants to “go places, like we used to.” Playgrounds being open helps a little, but she really wants to go SHOPPING and go to the grocery store and help pick out potatoes and little adventures like that. She’s been carrying around a tote bag saying she’s got her (reusable) bag and is ready to go to the store with daddy.

And it’s just frustrating that so many people AREN’T bothering to social distance or mask or follow the rules and making this all last longer for the rest of us.

Comment by Suburban Mom Tuesday, Jul 14, 20 @ 6:45 pm

  38. Meh. Quiet. Kid just got a job at a place that then shut down for a few days due to COVID.

    Comment by Scott217 Tuesday, Jul 14, 20 @ 7:11 pm

  39. My immediate family is healthy…we are blessed but an in-law was diagnosed with cancer in the middle of this. It just makes everything so much worse.

And, I am surprised that I am more productive working from home than in the office. It would be nice if I can continue to be at home a day or two a week.

Comment by Because I said so.... Tuesday, Jul 14, 20 @ 7:51 pm

  40. West Sider - Best of luck to you. Be positive for negative.

Comment by West Side the Best Side Tuesday, Jul 14, 20 @ 8:09 pm

  41. Still OK. Still painting; too old and sore to do more than a few hours a day. Had been dining in a couple of places we were comfortable (none of the ones identified so far), but probably going back to outdoor only.

Been skipping in person church services. The pastor has been traveling all over between weekends … Florida, South Dakota, etc. He’s still healthy but I worry.

Next two weeks should be interesting. Mrs has 2 different doctor appointments. I have one procedure (re)scheduled; was feeling good about it but now on the fence since Spfld Clinic employees reported positive.

Extended family all still healthy and employed. See the grandkids every day or two. Can’t ask for more than that.

Comment by RNUG Tuesday, Jul 14, 20 @ 8:39 pm

  42. Lake County Mom — thanks! Back at you.

Rayne of Terror — We love the Lake Shelbyville area, stayed in a cabin there for a week in the summer for several years. Used to be called Coyote Cabins. The properly backs up to an Army Corps of Engineers site so lots of wildlife.
