The numbers in the graph would, as you state, be “bonkers” if they were accurate, but they are not. The state report WBEZ referenced in their article appears to have been overstating DuPage’s reported mail-in ballot requests by a factor of 2. As of our most recent numbers this afternoon, 27.3% of DuPage registered voters have requested a mail-in ballot, still a quite large number, but in line with the trends in other counties. WBEZ has updated their story, and I am told that the state will be correcting their report later today.

If these numbers continue to rise in the future, wouldn’t it be wise to eliminate the traditional voting process.

Not requesting a vbm. Going to the poll in person. The only time I have vbm when was either deployed or stationed overseas.

VBM is sitting on my desk waiting to be filled out. When they are sealed I will drop both mine & my wife’s in the drop box at the courthouse.

I always vote in person and on Election Day. I hope I will always be able to do that. I have no problem with vbm and may be the way of the future that or computers. Times change

I got my VBM ballot on Monday here in DuPage County and sent it back yesterday (dropped it off directly at the post office).
In DuPage, it is nice because you can sign up for email and/or text alerts on your VBM ballot to notify you when they send it to you, when they receive it back, and when the ballot is accepted.

I requested a mail ballot as a contingency. I expect a lot of folks did as well. My first and likely choice will be early voting as soon as that opens up. I expect that VBM will be undermined by those that will look for any and all reasons to de-legitimize the result.

Got my ballot on Friday, mailed it back Monday, and received the email confirmation it had been accepted on Tuesday. Very impressed with both the USPS and Sangamon County for being on top of things out of the gate. My mail carrier had a helper and an extra truck on Friday since they had so many ballots to hand out!

Requested in case of health/safety concerns when early voting opens in Chicago, but will vote early in person when open downtown if it seems safe, since 69 W. Washington usually is fairly empty

Mrs. Bidenopolous got hers the other day and is dropping it off later today I think. I was going to VBM but as time passed, I decided I’d be comfortable early voting in person, so that’s what I’ll do. Super site opens tomorrow but I’ll wait until the ward EV sites open on October 15. Really, the only vote of consequence from my geographical perspective is the fair tax

Requested and received. Haven’t opened it yet but plan on doing it very soon, maybe sooner than anybody can imagine. The president is trying to delegitimize mail-in voting, maybe because of the high numbers we’re seeing in Illinois.

my wife and i have receive ours, voted and returned them to the election commission’s drop box. I also signed up for the ballot tracking system to make sure its included. I’d crawl through broken glass to vote this year.

Have gone back and forth about voting by mail, based solely on COVID-19. Usually vote in person on election day. Am thinking of going to the county building and voting early. I want to make sure my vote counts and I’m sure that tRump will attempt to invalidate all votes that arrived by mail.

Sangamon County – – I delivered my ballot to the post office at 4 PM Monday. By 2 PM Tuesday I received an email confirmation from the clerk telling me my ballot was received and accepted.

Got my VBM packet Friday. Completed it and dropped it off at the local court house. County clerk had a staffed desk in the hall with ‘Vote Here’ signs. Took about 3 minutes. 10 other people showed up as we turned in our ballots.

I have requested a VBM ballot, but worried that my vote might be rejected. I registered to vote 40 years ago and I really don’t know how much my signature changed. If I do VBM I will drop off the ballot at one of the conveniently located spots. I have decided that voting in person is no worse than going to the grocery store.

That DuPage number is crazy 50%.
In the 2018 election how many GOP members were winning at end of election night only to be done by weeks end?
If 50% of registered voters in DuPage applied for VBM and we know that those are probably not Republicans, due to the President saying don’t VBM, it is going to be a really bad cycle for DuPage GOP.

Last spring I heard the ads in DuPage seeking last-minute volunteers for working at primary polling locations. I voted early on the last Sat and worked on primary Tues. To be prepared to help again this fall, I requested a VBM ballot.

The VBM ballot arrived while we were gone over the weekend. I opened it Monday and found the return envelope was 75% sealed. I assume it was from the humidity from sitting outside. I decided instead of forcing it open so it would end up looking like a tampered ballot I returned it to the court house. While I was there I voted early at the court house.

DuPage County deserves a lot of credit for its management of VBM to date. Outreach to sign up was proactive (we received postcards inviting us to register online) and we received the ballots on Monday. Instructions were very clear on what to do to fill it out and return it.
My parents are in suburban Cook and haven’t received their ballots and seem less clear on what’s going on. That’s anecdotal, obviously, but it is what it is.

I’m planning to vote in person on election day, barring anything unforeseen. It should be a national holiday, where neighbors come together and celebrate democracy and our civic traditions. But since that would lead to riots this year, maybe it’s good that people are staying home and voting by mail.
I’ll be sure to say hello to the Proud Boys down at my polling place though. They’ll be easy to spot.

I am voting in person and working the polls on election day. Voting in person means that most signature verification dependencies can be resolved on the spot and also that any ballot irregularities (undervotes or overvotes) can be detected by the scanner with the opportunity for the voter to authorize submission as is or to void that ballot and get another one. I don’t understand why many people are willing to give up these immediate protections and resolutions when they vote by mail.

Nope. I voted in person last Friday. Luckily, very few voters were present at the time I voted, and everyone was masked and practicing social distancing.
I personally don’t have a problem with VBM, but I agree with @Responsa about wanting the opportunity to resolve any signature discrepancies or ballot irregularities on the spot. I confess to being somewhat of a worrywart.

Voted early in-person because I didn’t want to have to wait or stress about a mail-in ballot.
Now I just have to pray my county’s 2004-era computerized touch-screen voting system doesn’t get hacked, sabotaged, or otherwise malfunction to prevent my vote from being cast.
I hate that the only paper ballot option is via vote by mail.
Maybe if Dems get a federal trifecta we can get more money for a better and safer election system?

Apparently in Sangamon County, over 10% of the VBM ballots have already been returned via the drop boxes. I’ve got my ballot, will be returning it via a drop box at some point in the near future.

It’s a trampian thing. VBM is bad while absentee ballot is good. Different terminology for the voting process. A bit of cognitive dissonance and disassociation.

DuPage County-What a difference having a Democratic County Clerk makes for early voting.
All of the VBM mailings don’t hurt, but DuPage is almost 2-1 over Lake and Kane Counties.
