6,110 new cases, 51 additional deaths, 2,861 hospitalized, 6.7 percent positivity rate - Springfield region one day away from mitigation mark

The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) today reported 6,110 new confirmed cases of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in Illinois, including 51 additional deaths.

Currently, IDPH is reporting a total of 389,095 cases, including 9,619 deaths, in 102 counties in Illinois. The age of cases ranges from younger than one to older than 100 years. The preliminary seven-day statewide positivity for cases as a percent of total test from October 21 – October 27 is 6.7%. Within the past 24 hours, laboratories have reported 70,752 specimens for a total 7,459,042. As of last night, 2,861 people in Illinois were reported to be in the hospital with COVID-19. Of those, 600 patients were in the ICU and 243 patients with COVID-19 were on ventilators.

Information is constantly being entered into an electronic system and the number of cases and deaths can change as additional information is gathered. And as noted in the headline, Region 3’s 7-day rolling average positivity rate has been at 8 percent or higher for two straight days. One more and mitigations are automatically triggered.

  1. Region 6, sans U of I, topped 8% on 7 day average for 1st day. Region 2 at 7.7% and climbing.

  2. Looks like Region 2 will be the last to fall, but it won’t be long. They have still not hit the 8% tripwire, but they are within 0.2% with a slightly rising trend. All other regions are at 8% positivity, or past it, including Region 6 without UIUC.

  3. Given all the illness and death that has occurred at levels below 8%, I’m thinking we need to trigger these additional mitigations at a much lower level. Especially if we will be playing whack-a-mole for another 6-12+ months.

  5. Looks like IHSA voted today to partially ignore the Governor’s edict and continue with the basketball season under strick limitations.

  6. If Region 3 trips the finish line tomorrow, looks like the bar/indoor eating shutdowns go into effect at the worst possible time for downtown Springfield: 12:01AM Sunday, Nov. 1. Most likely leading to huge Halloween bar parties in downtown Springfield and other city drinking establishments. Nightmare scenario in my opinion.

  8. I am hoping my family can hide out and avoid infection until a proven and highly effective vaccine is available for us. The Covidiots make this hard.
