Political resolutions

Posted in:

SouthtownStar columnist Allison Hantschel listed her “political resolutions for an election year” today…

1. Refuse to forward political joke e-mails.
2. Not say a single thing about a candidate I can’t back up with at least one fact.
3. Avoid entirely any mention of various candidates’ sex lives.
4. Turn off the television and put down the magazine at the exact moment the conversation about the candidates’ wardrobes begin.
5. Murder the “electable” criterion in its cradle.

Go read the whole thing and come back here to discuss your own additions, subtractions, etc.

  1. 1. I will refuse to forward political Joke e-mails that do not mention Rod, Emil or Hoffman.

    2. I wont listen to a single thing Rod has to say unless he can backup it up with actual facts.

    3. I wont mention Rod’s stay at home job if he starts working from his chicago office.

    4. I won’t mention Rod’s hair or Jogging if he doesn’t.

    5. I will eliminate consideration of any plan submitted by rod that is not accompanied by complete legislation ready for consideration.

  3. Capt Fax must be weary this morning. But it’s Christmas, so lets play along.

    6. Ask all editors/ news directors to spike stories, columns, video, audio about Mopes.

Whenever slob “star”, sports figure does something stupid, start a fight, get pinched etc.
leave it out and go find a story about a good kid, decent adults, honest businesses, etc.
For instance Britney’s sister getting knocked up gets the hook and a story about a decent kid gets national play.

  4. For journalists in general:

    6. I promise not to use the expression “loophole” to describe a political behavior that is clearly, explicitly _sanctioned_ by existing law (Rich blogged on this point earlier).

    7. I promise to reduce my use of the term “skyrocketing” to describe any kind of expense (especially the so-called skyrocketing expense of political campaigns / TV ads / etc.)

    Minor nits, but they annoy.

  5. “Murder the “electable” criterion in its cradle.”

    Amen! What a farce.

  6. 1. National reporters need to stop reporting on local stories. Case in point - this whole Peterson thing. Or the halloway thing. These aren’t national stories. These are local stories.

    2. Celebrity “news” does not belong on real news newscasts. That’s what entertainment news shows and networks (E! and Access Hollywood) are for. If I turn on CNN, I don’t want to hear about Britney’s sister.
