As the pandemic begins to recede in U.S. states, Illinois is among America’s most improved.
The nation’s sixth-most-populous state has had a notable turnaround since its case curve peaked in November, compared with large peers including California, Georgia, New York, Florida and Pennsylvania. The improved metrics follow almost two months of tightened restrictions that Governor J.B. Pritzker enacted to avoid a holiday surge.
The Covid-19 case count on Tuesday fell to 2,304, the lowest daily figure since Oct. 6, according to the Illinois Department of Public Health. One day earlier, the number of deaths touched 16, the fewest since November. Hospitalizations and intensive-care bed use also declined to the lowest since the fall. The rolling seven-day positivity rate dipped to 3.9% from 11.5% on Nov. 20, the day the governor enacted the rules.

I feel sorry for all the businesses that have been impacted, but his actions have helped slow the spread. Hopefully relief for all is just around the corner.

I sure wish that more people would understand these numbers as “the preventative measures are working” instead of “the preventative measures are unnecessary.”

If you can’t understand how “preventive measures” are designed to work, then having a discussion filled with angst now at the preventive measures is a good way to look ignorant to what this information (news) means.
Hopefully this will stacked upon with more good news going forward.

We hope so but right now it is impossible to schedule the vaccine in Sangamon County. Mrs RNUG checks most the high risk boxes and all we get is “sorry, no vaccine” or ” sorry, no appointments available”.

Look, if you all want to believe JB Pritzker saved us all, go ahead. But you’ll have to explain how Illinois’ mitigations worked so well in Wisconsin, Iowa and other states that all have enjoyed rapidly falling COVID numbers at the same time.

@RNUG….And it’s tougher that Sangamon county sets the bar at 85+. I think we’re the only county in the state with that requirement. Also you don’t have to live in county like other counties require. I’m 72 so I concentrated on the pharmacies and yesterday I got an appt at the Walgreens on Clear Lake. The 2nd dose appt was also made. Create accounts at the pharmacies (including Meijer) if you haven’t already and keep checking there for openings. Good luck.

If you believe any numbers that come out of Missouri, I’ve got some shares in the Alto Pass Casino I’m dying to sell.
Numerous county health departments had to go it alone, and faced threats of violence, when they instituted their own mask mandates after Parson refused to do so.

@RNUG–if you can check those pharmacies at midnight when they release the new slots. I have a family member that is 1b and managed to score one that way. Stay well and safe!

Got mine thru Springfield Clinic. Went to see my Family doctor on another matter last week and was asked if I would be interested in getting the vaccine. Told them to put me on the list. Had the shot the next day.

Seeing the numbers dropping nation wide have left me scratching my head a bit. I know CA has a pretty strict lockdown, and they were a huge driver of the increase, but numbers seem to be going down everywhere, even in places that didn’t add more restrictions. Or at least, I’m not AWARE of added restrictions.
I’m looking forward to a few years from now, when tempers have cooled and people have had time to really dig into all the different policies and data on what happened to the spread of COVID in different places. Try to piece together what the heck actually happened.

Like RNUG and others I have been unable to get an appointment for a vaccination. The web site linked to by the Governor simply does not work. DuPage county put me on an e-mail list but that’s it. I’m in the over 65 category 1b (and also a retired non-union guy).
It would be great if someone could tell me to expect to wait 2 weeks, or 4 weeks or something fairly definite.

Sangamon county health is now open to 65+ as vaccine is available. Hy Vee also has appointments sometime.

RNUG, yesterday I posted about not being able to get a vaccine in Sangamon County. I just checked the Sangamon County website and they have now opened it up to all persons in catagory 1a and 1b. Also one Walgreens and Hyvee are scheduling. Keep trying. I suspect there was some pressure put on them to open things up.

The John Hopkins statistics show that Illinois is the leader among the neighboring States of Iowa, Indiana, Wisconsin, Missouri and Kentucky. Wisconsin is second in positivity rates with a rate below 5%. All others are above 5%. Testing stats reflect low testing rates per 100k people in several of the other States bringing into doubt the accuracy of their positivity rates.

You’ll never get the DeVore, Bailey, or Bishop followers to admit Illinois’s numbers has anything to do with the Governor and his mitigation guidelines. They will forever be saying he ruined the economy just to save lives. Of course not in those words.

RNUG, If you have ever used HSHS urgent care or labs, or have a doctor there, go on their website and sign up for “My Health” patient portal. They started doing patients a week ago Thursday - I go a text out of the blue to register for vaccination, signed husband up for “my chart” his came up last week. They seem to set up schedule as vaccine comes in on Mondays. Got a phone call from Memorial Monday on my husband also to schedule. Hopefully you get contacted soon.

Skowron says they have seen a massive reduction in the flu this year and he attributes it to the distancing and mask-wearing measures the public has taken thanks to COVID.”
