Governor’s office staff member tested positive, had no close contact with Pritzker

Reporters—

During routine COVID testing today a member of the Governor’s Office staff tested positive for COVID-19.

This employee was NOT in close contact with the Governor today or in previous days.
All staff members identified as a close contact will follow CDC protocol for quarantine.
The positive employee had recently received their first dose of vaccine.

The Governor’s Office continues to follow COVID-19 safety protocols including testing staff multiple times per week, weekly deep cleaning procedures, mask wearing, social distancing, and limiting the number of staff reporting to the office for in person work.

I always hope for the best with this pandemic, but what struck me is first dose of vaccine and then a positive test for coronavirus. We’re not quite out of this yet.

Not surprising, since full immunity is not achieved until 2 weeks after the last dose. As someone who in the middle of that 2 week wait and has been super compliant with CDC best practices (work from home, virtual school, delivered groceries, etc.), I can say that the urge to go back to normal just days after the first dose is strong. There is such an emotional relief to knowing the end is near, I suspect many just back into normal activities a tad early. Thankfully, their immune system had a head start on fighting this infection, so hopefully they will easily fight it off.
