ABC 7 is reporting that the Governor is expected to sign one of the Juneteenth bills today at 10 here in Springfield. No mention in the article whether he’s going to sign the Senate or the House version–and IIRC the House version doesn’t give state employees the day off if Juneteenth falls on a weekend.

It was nice to see that Illinois’ own Mary Miller joined 20 of her other colleagues in voting against recognizing the Capitol Police for their role in defending the U.S. Capitol.

Prosecutors rely on police to identify suspects and provide evidence in order to bring charges. CPD has a low rate of clearance for homicide cases, and I suspect other shooting crimes. Why that is is certainly up for debate, but that seems like a big driver of low prosecution rates (assuming the premise of the question is true.)

That fire is crazy. Surprised to see the Governor hasn’t made the trip to the area to survey the extent of the fire and damage and to reassure the residents that the state will help them through this.

I don’t think this is a good idea considering the Delta and other variants still around the world, but Springfield City council last night voted to end the city mask mandate.

I want to high five Chicago Police Supt. Brown for his comment about Kim Foxx, “And I would argue the idea of decriminalizing illegal gun possession is the most ridiculous thing I’ve heard in my 40 years of law enforcement.” WBEZ rightly points out that she did not endorse decriminalization, but in effect that’s what she’s saying. It’s a law that people cannot possess guns illegally. feeling sorry for someone who gets a criminal record because they are caught illegally possessing a weapon is, as Brown said, ridiculous.
