* From Darren Bailey’s Facebook page

I am honored to accept the endorsement of the Central Illinois Republican Warriors. Tonight was full of good friends, hugs, prayers, and patriots fired up and ready to take the fight to the establishment and out of touch billionaires like JB Pritzker. He can spend his money, but he will never match the momentum of our movement. Together we will fire him next November and get Illinois growing again. #standingwithyouin2022 #baileyforillinois

    It is a public post Mr. Bailey’s campaign posted on Facebook. That, to me, makes it public and fair game.
    Therefore… Hey guys, the hands on are nice and all, but a few bucks would be better.

  19. “Government is my religion”

    Religion is a construct of man. Shaped, altered, ignored, “reformed”, by whomever has the power at the time. Churches argue, divide, dissolve because their own congregation can’t agree on how to worship.

    Religion has zip to do with one’s faith and belief in a supreme being.

    No one hates Bailey.

    The hypocrisy, grifting, the things that play on racial fears, anger, and angst… for me, mocking Bailey’s lunacy and refusal to see honesty is worth mocking.

    It is “beware of false prophets” indeed.

    Comment by Oswego Willy Tuesday, Jun 29, 21 @ 9:49 am

  35. I’m not a fan of Bailey in the slightest, but this post and yesterday’s about modest wear at a Church camp is Rich having some fun mocking Christians. C’mon, do better.

    Comment by Keyrock Tuesday, Jun 29, 21 @ 9:57 am

  37. OW - the only false prophet is secularists like yourself who pull verses out of context to make a point about something you know nothing about. By your logic, there should never be any public/corporate prayer, ever. Wrong. The teaching was about the intent and heart behind words spoken aloud in prayer - was it show off and be seen as “holy”? - or is your prayer truly a petition to God?

    Comment by Hahaha Tuesday, Jun 29, 21 @ 9:58 am

  38. === is Rich having some fun mocking Christians.===

    … and yet at least one Chicago news station reported of the outbreak, also made note of the Christian camp

    So there’s that one…

    To the mocking here?

    I guess being a Christian isn’t turning the other cheek but making sure grifters and phonies “pray” on the flock.

    Your comment only makes sense if you aren’t in on Bailey’s gag.

    “Caption?”

    “… and we thank you for Facebook, Twitter, all the platforms… to spread our grift and get larger donations… “

    LOL

    “Hey, I’m a Christian, but that Sermon on the Mount is totally ruining our grift.”

    This is comically sad to the idea… Jesus was wrong… abd you know better?

    Comment by Oswego Willy Tuesday, Jun 29, 21 @ 10:01 am

  41. === By your logic, there should never be any public/corporate prayer, ever.===

    No.

    As described in the Sermon on the Mount… it’s the intent.

    If you feel this need to be seen praying or this want to show yourself as such… yeah… the Sermon on the Mount… you should revisit it.

    Comment by Oswego Willy Tuesday, Jun 29, 21 @ 10:03 am

  42. ===corporate prayer===

    “Please, make your donations to the Bailey campaign…”

    You mean that corporate?

    Beware of the Pharisees

    Comment by Oswego Willy Tuesday, Jun 29, 21 @ 10:06 am

  43. ===As described in the Sermon on the Mount… it’s the intent.===

    That’s literally what I said…the teaching is about intent. How do you presume to know about the intent behind anyone in the picture? You used this picture of people praying to mock their doing so and to assume negative intentions. That’s fine, but own your darkness.

    Comment by Hahaha Tuesday, Jun 29, 21 @ 10:16 am

  44. === That’s literally what I said…===

    .., and yet you’re “worried” that this deserved mocking is in line with the intent?

    Like I said… maybe revisit it… or make your check payable to Bailey as he publicly prays for support.

    I’ll tell ya, running as a Christian purposely against Pritzker will be… interesting.

  50. Some of the backlash against these captions is interesting. We had a president who would make inappropriate comments, then he and his supporters would say, “Oh it’s just a joke. Everyone is too sensitive. You’re all snowflakes.”

  53. =You used this picture of people praying to mock their doing so and to assume negative intentions. That’s fine, but own your darkness.=

    Sounds like judgement to me. You are not the one to judge, or maybe your beliefs are only held as a convenience.

    Also, shouldn’t you be working to bring people away from the darkness and into the light?

    this is my beef with people like Bailey who hide behind their alleged faith but also attack our governor and others that think or believe differently than they do.

    Toughen up.

    Comment by JS Mill Tuesday, Jun 29, 21 @ 11:33 am

  54. Darren and his ilk are just another example of the more that neo-cons try to appear like something, the less likely that is what they are in reality.

    Actions and behavior, not photo ops, define whether one is following the teachings of Christ. If Darren is trying to recruit extras for the movie version of the Confederacy of Dunces then he is doing well.

  55. The “darkness” is being generated from fearful ignorant minds.

  56. And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.

  58. Here’s another quote, from John M. Barry’s biography of Roger Williams, that seems to fit the facts of the case:

    “[…] Williams described the true church as a magnificent garden, unsullied and pure, resonant of Eden. The world he described as “the Wilderness,” a word with personal resonance for him. Then he used for the first time a phrase he would use again, a phrase that although not commonly attributed to him has echoed through American history. “[W]hen they have opened a gap in the hedge or wall of Separation between the Garden of the Church and the Wildernes of the world,” he warned, “God hathe ever broke down the wall it selfe, removed the Candlestick, &c. and made his Garden a Wildernesse.”

    He was saying that mixing church and state corrupted the church, that when one mixes religion and politics, one gets politics.
