  1. – still doesn’t know why –

While the specifics vary, there has been a strong push coming out of some groups which has really ramped up about 8 months ago to kick people off social media.

Something similar happened to me on another social media site, where I found out someone was using my legal identity to impersonate me and then attaching those actions to my real account - leading to bans on my main account. I only found out about it because one of the people at the decision level reached out to me before it happened and told me what was going on and who was carrying it out.

Thankfully, Illinois has amazingly strong protections against using electronic means to fraudulently impersonate someone. From there it’s pretty easy to get a court order to hand over the offenders details from the provider. Civil cases against the offenders can then turn quickly into criminal prosecution.

On the plus side, the people involved in this activity seem entirely unaware how not-anonymous they really are online.
