Mansion up for bids

Posted in:

* Hey, somebody wants to spend time there

Supporters of one of the largest high school districts in Illinois — Township District 214 in Arlington Heights — are auctioning off 49 “experience” packages on eBay this week. One of the items is a four-course dinner for as many as 10 people at the Executive Mansion in Springfield.

* But this is all they’ve bid?

High bid on the mansion package was $360 Tuesday evening after nine bids. The auction ends at 7 a.m. today. […]

[Mansion curator Dave Bourland] said the cost for dinner at the mansion is $34 per person. Tours are free.

Discuss.

  1. If we had only known we could have bid and had a CapFax event…

  2. Maybe we could invite G-Rod so he would know where it was at??

  3. Hmmm, I’d be game for a dinner at the little used Governor’s Mansion.

  4. Good point, OneMan. That would’ve been fun.

  5. Getting on my soapbox…
I is sad that for good and great causes…NO one supports these events. We are having a kick-off event for the Bicentennial this Saturday at the Mansion…not one…repeat NOT one elected offical or other person of stature who was sent a free invitation took up the chance for a real good PR and face time event. Has this state and the “Land of Lincoln” gone totally comotose? Sorry Rich…had to vent…just frustrated

  7. RICH

The fact that the “Mansion is up for bid” is not new!

It has been up for bid to the highest bidder for 6 years, with 2 more to go!

  9. Wow, maybe the guv will latch on to this idea to get Illinois out of debt. Imagine, you could stay in the Lincoln bedroom, from before he was president.

  10. As for the dinner, at the rareley used Mansion, maybe the lucky winner should invite G-Rod and maybe the staff can give him a tour. I still like the idea of converting it to a B&B at least through the current term!

  11. That newspaper story was posted really early this morning and the auction didn’t end until afterward. When I went to ebay looking for it, after 7 am, it was already gone, but it may have been bid higher. Anybody know how to find out how much it actually went for? 7am is a strange time to end an auction, too.

  12. Ask you shall receive. missed it. Here’s a link to the closed auction on ebay, don’t know how long it stays up for, but it ended up going for $760. The heaviest bidding at the end was from people with 0 feedback. Since it’s for a charitable cause, I hope they weren’t screwing around.
