* Um, is this what is known as talking out of both sides of your mouth?
[11th Congressional District Democratic candidate Debbie Halvorson] said Wednesday she wants to talk about issues and not be negative as she traverses a district that stretches from Chicago’s southern suburbs to Bloomington-Normal. Key among the issues is the economy.
“Everybody is frustrated with the Republicans,” Halvorson said.
* Runner up goes to Bernie Schoenburg, who, after noting that the Green Party ballot total was less than two-tenths of a percent in Sangamon county, wrote…
This does not bode well for a Green takeover of the state.

In this state, everybody is frustrated with the Democrats, too. Deb’s only Achilles Heel (and it’s a big one) is her nexus to Jones, et al. So…does she try to run away from her own party’s troubles, or hammer on the other one’s? It’s a fine line to walk.

The encouraging news for the Green Party is that they number of people who voted in the Green primary is more than twice the number of dues paying Greens in Illinois. That’s a good indication that the Green Party will take another quantum leap in 2008 like it did in 2006. They have a record 9 congressional candidates this year.

Nobody will “out-nice” Debbie Halvorson. That may sound negative, but there’s no question that there is a big undercurrent of frustrations aimed at the Republicans after 8 years of Alfred E. Newman at the helm. 8 years ago, nobody talked Iraq or Barack. Now it’s all the political chatter and none of it’s good for the Repubs. Call it negative if you want, I call it accurate and a winner.

I really dont think that the Greens are going to make any kind of great leap forward this year, the majority of the votes that Whitney gained were protest votes against the poor quality of the GOP and Dem candidates for Governor, if you need any extra proof of this look at the difference between the number of votes he received and the number that all of the other Green Party candidates received. When you can not even receive a percent of the vote state wide in primary, that not a good sign for the future. Why the hell would the Green party want McKinney as candidate for President anyway?

I don’t know if Halvorson was talking out both sides of her mouth, or if it was just a poorly written section of the article. There had to be a lot of other comments by her wrapped around the “negative” statement that was published.
She’s running for US Congress so the antics of the president and the Republican members of Congress are a big issue. Case in point: Arlen Specter is chasing the NFL for its handling of the Patriots cheating. It is clearly an attempt to take up Congress’ time so that the Protect America Act doesn’t get a full vetting before a vote. (And Comcast is his biggest contributor; the NFL/Comcast battle is making lawyers and lobbyists A LOT of money.)
Meanwhile, the president vetoes almost everything that is not exactly to his liking, and if he doesn’t agree with something that he does sign, he writes himself a waiver for it.
This is exactly what she says it is: frustrating.

No one from the Green Party did ANY campaigning whatsoever in this state. So it should be no surprise there wasn’t any turnout cause they didn’t do any promotion.

A lot of the Green campaigners that I have come across do present themselves very professionally and whether its fair or not, I suspect that turns off some people, but that probably one of the smaller problems that the Green Party has.

Yo, Deb. It’s the Democrats who are running this state into the ground. Also, the U.S. Congress, House and Senate, are controlled by Democrats. Are you going to offer up some criticism about that pathetic “leadership”?

Kind of like Halvorson’s buddy Baloneyvich, only the president isn’t THAT ham-handed. Why don’t we hear her criticizing Blah’s shenanigans? Because she agrees with him. I’m surprised she isn’t blaming everything on George Ryan.
Halvorson will be the first to taste electorial defeat by the hand of the milkman.

Looks like shoddy writing, if you ask me. Regardless, the end of the article suggests that there is going to be a shift from Blue to Red in the 11th. Why in the world would the 11th’s Republican Candidates peeps send that around to the media is beyond me, considering a political scientist is suggesting his guy’s doom.

Deb needs to worry about little things like refusing to call the ethics bill for a vote, Debs against ethics. Maybe she should re examine her sticking with jones and Blago. She is the Majority leader of one of the most corrupt and useless bodys of goverment she should run on that accomplishment. Halvorson is part of the problem in Springfield not part of the solution in washington.

Halvorson is herself facing a Green opponent–Jason Wallace; and unlike her, he has the support of rural conservatives in the Peotone area because he opposes the construction of an airport in that area. Halvorson is right that people are upset with the Republican Party, but I would add that people are ALSO upset with the Democratic Party.
