The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) today reported 49,668 new confirmed and probable cases of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in Illinois, including an increase of 266 deaths since December 3, 2021.
Currently, IDPH is reporting a total of 1,884,744 cases, including 26,801 deaths, in 102 counties in Illinois. The age of cases ranges from younger than one to older than 100 years. Since Friday, December 3, 2021, laboratories have reported 1,160,624 specimens for a total of 40,810,633. As of last night, 3,257 individuals in Illinois were reported to be in the hospital with COVID-19. Of those, 662 patients were in the ICU and 299 patients with COVID-19 were on ventilators.
The preliminary seven-day statewide positivity for cases as a percent of total test from December 3-9, 2021 is 4.3%. The preliminary seven-day statewide test positivity from December 3-9, 2021 is 5.8%.
A total of 18,007,906 vaccines have been administered in Illinois as of last midnight. The seven-day rolling average of vaccines administered daily is 72,775 doses. Since Friday, December 3, 2021, 509,428 doses were reported administered in Illinois. Of Illinois’ total population, approximately 70% has received at least one COVID-19 vaccine dose and more than 62% of Illinois’ total population is fully vaccinated according to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Approximately 41% of Illinois’ eligible adults have received a booster dose of vaccine.
Monoclonal antibodies therapy is a prevention as well as treatment option for COVID-19 illness for non-hospitalized people and is a way to lower the chance of progression to severe illness or hospitalization. An estimated 235 or more hospitalizations were avoided over a 4-week time period due to monoclonal antibody treatment. IDPH continues to encourage health care providers, including primary care offices, outpatient clinics, urgent care centers, infusion centers, dialysis centers, home health services, and hospitals to assess their capabilities to provide this treatment to their patients quickly after they have been identified as having COVID-19 and are determined to be at risk for severe illness or hospitalization.

I really really am bad at basic biology. I do not understand how this virus can be going up. 70% of people in Illinois have to be shot 60% are fully vaccinated. The virus has been around about 18 months many people in Illinois had it and I would bet almost everyone exposed by now. So why is it going up? Winter? In doors? It would seem there would be a much smaller population that could be infected. And to be cruel if only the unvaccinated are getting it they made their choice let them live with it. And I don’t mean people who for medical reasons cannot get shot.

DuPage Saint - the problem with the last advice is that we don’t know the long term effects of COVID. The RW focuses on mortality, but there’s evidence even mild cases might have significant long term consequences. Plus some people are unvaxed without fault of their own - their immune systems can’t handle it. As for the bad numbers, vaxes less effective against Delta, even less for omicron even if boosted, some cases of reinfection (esp. if unvaxed).
My big hope now is that the Pfizer treatment shows the same kind of efficacy in the real world as in labs (89%) and that omicron is less deadly. If so, then between that *and* vaccine boosters *and* existing treatments, at that point “living with it” doesn’t seem as nightmarish as it does now.

Bring back the daily press conferences.
We are averaging more than 30 deaths a day.
The daily press conferences signal to the public and the media that things have taken a serious turn.
No breakdown of how many of the dead or hospitalized were unvaccinated, That is an important message.
No break down of ICU or ventilator usage.
Also, when it comes to vaccines we should stop refering to people that haven’t received their booster yet as “fully vaccinated”, unless they got their second dose after June, it is just not true.

Sen/Prof/Dr Ron Johnson just said Listerine can prevent COVID followed by the Listerine company saying their product does not do that. Today I watched two women buying bottles of Listerine saying that will help prevent COVID. Felt like being in a Philip K Dick story. Get the shot and get this done.

That leaves around 4 million people eligible for vaccines who have not been vaccinated.

I would say no. Besides, the major thing in Phase 4 is a gathering limit of 50 or less. Nobody is going to enforce that one. The message is and has been wear a mask and get vaccinated. Even if you went backwards you aren’t going to get anywhere because the people you would need to follow those guidelines wouldn’t follow them. They don’t even want to wear a mask.

DuPage Saint, people can get repeat infections. People who are vaccinated can get infected but hopefully the vaccine protects them from severe illness. The virus has mutated thus allowing for infections. Children are back in school and they are little virus factories who can be asymptomatic so no one knows they are sick but they are busy spreading the virus (that is why kids need to wear masks at school). Being indoors and together for the holidays will add to all this. Wish we could say ignore the unvaccinated but unfortunately we can’t as we will all strain the healthcare system and unvaccinated allow for more mutations especially mutations that may be resistant to the vaccine.

Viruses mutate and evolve. To the extent people were exposed early on it would have been to the initial strain. Vaccine effectiveness and immunity also wanes over time. In short, with the passage of time, fading immunity, and new variants, the virus will find hosts. And yes, vaccines and boosters are still the most effective tools to counter all of these variables.

==DuPage== There are still millions unvaxxed. The 1918 Flu was actually 1918-1921 until it ran out of hosts and/or mutated to be less deadly. It will keep hunting down the unvaxed, killing about 1% of them. Also, it keeps changing so I think you could catch it again…you can get the flu two years in a row.

Our neighboring state (the highly polluted one) called for assistance from the National Guard as their hospitals are at capacity. The hospitals need medics and other staff to provide services at their facilities.
If only folks got their vaccinations.

If we did there would be whole sections of the state that would just ignore it. There are significant portion of the state where the mask mandate is basically ignored which would be fine if the only people who were victims of that behavior were the people making that decision, but it’s not.
It’s one thing to orphan your own children and it’s another thing to orphan someone else’s kids, but I guess there’s literally millions of people living in this state that refuse to take any responsibility for the lives of others in their community.
Moving to a different phase isn’t going to suddenly cause these people to take responsibility for their actions.
Next week we’re going to hit the 30,000 deaths milestone.
What people like Darren Bailey and Tom DeVore have done should be considered criminal.

As someone who followed the rules and didn’t lie about my health status to get my booster faster, I’ll admit to some resentment at the quick calls to redefine “fully vaccinated.” Fine for the cheaters who jumped the line but for those who did not, it takes some time to get an appointment and set aside time for potential side effects. The full approval came less than 3 weeks ago and there was an intervening holiday. Unrealistic to expect that large numbers of people would already be past the 2 week period for full booster coverage.

South Suburban College in South Holland has a drive-through PCR-based testing and vaccination site in operation. For some reason it does not show up on vaccines.com, and the college website states it’s run in cooperation with IDPH. https://www.ssc.edu/news-events-information/covid19-information/

Locally a woman in her 70s died after testing positive on November 28th. All I can think of is someone killed their mom or grandma by having a big gathering at Thanksgiving while espousing anti-vax feelings.
The next best thing to come our way will be the Pfizer pill. I was hopeful it would be rolled out in December but that timeline isn’t bearing fruit.
And I was talking someone down off the ledge about a roll back to Phase 4 this winter. I agree, there is almost no way it’s going to happen. The vaxxed won’t stand for it, the unvaxxed never would anyway.

Who’s paying for this, GOP? Why not follow your own philosophy of not wanting to pay for other people’s health problems? They brought it on themselves, did they not, by refusing to get vaccinated and use common-sense preventive measures like masks?

I hope that Chicago institutes vax requirement for restaurants/bars asap. Impossible to mask and eat/drink and unlikely that anybody masks between bites/sips. Put in some safety net support for the bars/restaurants (yes, easier said than done and scam opportunities abound but rough justice is doable). That is the kind of carrot/stick that just might move the needle.

Checks calendar…there was no ISBE meeting yesterday, it was on 11/18 and the next one is scheduled for the 15th.
What you saw was a recording of some of the dummies in my business saying dumb things and getting it in record.

Great question. Unfortunately the GOP is far better than the Democrats at this type of messaging. We alsways here about the “Blue State Bailouts” that really aren’t. We are constantly sending our tax dollars to red states that lack planning and infrastructure to deal with issues/disasters but are often lauded for their low taxes (especially by some that post here). When was the last time federal dollars had to go to Illinois because it was chilly outside and our lights wouldn’t work?
More red state welfare.
