Airport Workers and Rockford Mayor: Do you know what city has the fastest growing cargo airport in the world?
It’s right here in Illinois: Rockford, Illinois!
And as Governor, JB Pritzker helped make it happen by investing in new capacity for our airport and funding millions to train workers.
Business has already tripled, and the upcoming expansion will create hundreds of new jobs.
JB Pritzker: Across Illinois, we’re improving infrastructure and creating jobs.
There’s a lot left to do, but Illinois is moving forward.

It’s a solid B, it’s what incumbents do.
Governors own, they always do, and owning successes and investing in infrastructure, and anything you can *point* to as an accomplishment, it’s a good ad.
It’s tacking and blocking, a 4-yard running play, and you stack enough of those running plays you score touchdowns.
It’s a B.
A reminder. Governors own.

Kinda weak sauce. A slight pass to run in Rockford area. A fail beyond there. People in Chicago would likely be more interested in jobs there than 80 miles away.

I guess it legitimately doesn’t matter what he spends his money since he has an infinite amount, but I think this trying to paint JB as a competent manager of state government on things that no one has heard of is curious. I think it’ll have the opposite effect.
That being said, if you’re the family/close friend of someone in the commercial, A-. Your friend is on TV, so that’s cool.

I dunno if in one breath one might say Pritzker only cares about Chicago then not be impressed when Pritzker shows things outside of Chicago, like investing, and dismiss it.
It seems that there’s a purposeful strategy that shows Pritzker cares about Illinois, not a pandering to Chicago needs.

B a very solid professional add that sticks with the theme that he is governor for the whole state and has worked to improve all corners. Very much on message and positive. Unlike the ridiculous armageddon ads from Sully and Irvin.

I give it an A-. Take a victory lap when there is one to be had as it’s a good story to tell.
JB’s wardrobe does confound me. The “working man” look on billionaires just seems off, and that included Rauner’s faux-regular guy schtick.
I suppose he just doesn’t feel comfortable with the way he looks. He has a difficult frame to clothe.

A solid B. Pritzker can continue to roll out a steady stream of messages targeted at accomplishments throughout the state while his opponents shift from outrage to outrage. Whether it’s in Rockford, Chicago, or Carbondale, this is what good governing looks like.

Kind of shows the consequences of Rauner’s messaging. Rivian is now on track to produce 200 cars a week in the plant that we couldn’t give away. Nice to have a governor that sees the benefit in touting business growth in this state.

F for the timing of the Ad.
Just yesterday DCFS was rated the worst it has been in 30 years after almost 4 years of Pritzker poor management. While the Director of this tragedy continues to be held in contempt for what he is doing to children, Mr. Pritzker runs a “look at me” Ad.
How about helping those children?
Maybe I am just stuck on that news report, but to me this just highlights Team Pritzker’s “politics over people” philosophy.

And that will be part of the record that Pritzker will have to run on as well. But are you suggesting that he should avoid running any positive ads as some sort of penance? I’m guessing that you aren’t the audience he’s aiming this message at.

Good ad. Easy B. Keep getting positive messages across. Glad to see Rockford get some serious attention. Just got to wonder what would happen if Coles County International Airport had a similar development. The Eastern Bloc would have a split brain seizure then find something else to complain about.

Economic progress over the environment, smh. BTW you can build the cargo area and save the prairie, just takws some creative solutions to stormwateer

D because the Bell Bowl Prairie controversy has yet to be resolved and paying over it runs completely counter to JB’s so-called green creds.
The woman at the 6 second mark that exclaims “Rockford” saves it from a failing grade. I would advise anyone running to use her as much as possible.

Solid A-. Amplifying regional economic success is a smart re-election strategy. If he “owns” DCFS, well, he owns regional economic successes as well. The path for the general election is to stay competitive downstate as a Democrat and this type of ad keeps him in the hunt.

Rate it a C- - JB sending a mixed message. Jobs yes but what about environment ?
With all that cargo growth what about the prairie destruction. And the Cargo jets that are being attracted are 747’s old jets that are some of the worst in terms of Co2 pollution…

C for Carhartt but I’m not completely sure that’s a Carhartt jacket so I am withholding that grade. Governor Pritzker is a man who loves to layer.
I don’t want to be harsh about the kind of video the Governor has to be making as an incumbent demonstrating things that he’s done that have gone well. This is an A- ad for Northern Illinois and a B- ad for Southern Illinois. I think it’s effectiveness is based entirely on where the ad buy is.

The governor is supporting the funding of projects, not hunting down endangered owls.
Are your standards so rigid that one must be all or none? If so there are many on the blog with long memories that will hold you to those strict standards. Just saying.
The RKFD airport growth is very good for an area that has long felt left out of the states plans. The airport has been a catalyst for economic growth in an are that needed it desperately. This is a very good thing. Prairie ground notwithstanding.

I mentioned this when we looked at one of Irvin’s ads, too- a candidate’s ads just aren’t going to mention any bad news about the candidate, and it’s silly to expect them to do so.

Grading criteria are always relevant, right? I would give this a C in that it is just normal, average, what I would expect. I would give it a B because it is upbeat and optimistic. I would give it a B because it does not appear to make any mistakes.
I would give it an A for not being mean, angry, attacking (see my comment on Open Threat, where I express frustration with other campaign ads - Matthew Rauschert)

I dunno if they “work” or not- I suspect most voters don’t actually care. As much as we made fun of Rauner’s wardrobe (and then, oddly, also criticized Pritzker’s ad that made fun of it, too), I would be surprised if that wasn’t the least of the average voter’s concerns.
