In 2009 the national transportation safety board recommended reducing the BAC for DUI to .05. This is suppose to save 100 lives a year in Illinois.

We as Americans need to be decent to each other. We need to accept that we will have differences, but not lose touch of what we share in common.

It would generally be property taxes, but given how poorly Pritzker and Co. did when selling the graduated income tax amendment, that issue sadly won’t be addressed anytime soon.
So in lieu of that, with the Supreme Court showing it is prepared to do away with established precedent, I’m looking to see who will stand up to support civil rights which could soon be in jeopardy.

Saving our democracy is the overriding issue that is facing our country. We have one party that is focused on lying, phony conspiracy theories, voter suppression and hate mongering to attain and maintain power.

I’ll be honest. It all boils down to electing Democrats. By and large, Republicans local and nationwide have shown hostility to everything I believe in, including honest discourse and even the preservation of our democratic system. That doesn’t mean that all Dems are good, but I’d rather tolerate their excesses.

Reducing the poison of racism and disinformation - enormous goals for an election year but - for some reason - they seem more important than a candidate’s five-point plan this year.

Can we get either political party to embrace the centrists? Stop appealing to the polar extremists of your party. Maybe it is time for a third party to emerge that could be a steady hand on the wheel of progress.

There’s a reason I look to - Norseman - so often to gauge my own take to an overall.
Reading that above, the rest of the discussion, be it taxes, crime, abortion, economy, for me, if a candidate feels this need to usurp American Democracy, believes in conspiracies, has a need for overt racial thoughts or a need for racial underpinnings… the whole package is … saving our democracy… and that issue easily sorts out many candidates.
*For me*, so *I’m* clear…
The issue of saving democracy includes but isn’t limited to the simplicity of “was the last election stolen”
If one can’t answer no, then how can I ever trust them on any other thing in governing?

Let’s make politics boring again. I long for a return to quiet competence in governing, civil disagreements and honest differences on policy. I am not holding out for perfection, or even greatness, I just want government to work for everyone they way it is intended.
We need to end corruption in government and in our own political lives. We are all in this together, our government is “we the people.” Let’s not forget that, even when the other party is in charge.
As Paul Simon used to say, “my friends, we can do better.”

Better maternity health care policies and the right to choose. Full stop. After being told for years that Roe v Wade would never go away, unfortunately it seems we don’t have the room to be that optimistic anymore.

Would have to agree with saving democracy, and stopping illiberalism—the banning of books and mention/teaching of racism and LGBT in school, banning pharmacies from questioning the effectiveness of Ivermectin for COVID, like Missouri is trying to do*, people turning in others for anti-abortion bounties and the like.

Participation… in the process of democracy at all levels, and candidates who will actively work to provide access to that participation for all of their constituents. Removing voting barriers and livestreaming then archiving all meetings are two areas that come to mind.

Reproductive choice. Women need to decide how to have a child or not have a child. No one else. Many of the anti choice are against the birth control pill and some even against in vitro fertilization. They do not decide. It’s about women’s agency. It is policy war.

Voting rights and preserving/protecting democracy. This is foundational. All other rights are at risk because voting rights are at risk. So many common sense policies are supported by a majority of people and yet we are hostage to minority values because of the erosion of voting rights and the widespread use of gerrymandering.

Simple question for all candidates at all levels:
Do you agree that Joseph Biden is the elected president of the United States?
If the candidate answers anything but yes, then only the most extreme partisan voter should for for her/him.

Norseman has my vote. Saving democracy is the existential issue of our time for America. Unfortunately, we have to battle Climate Change, Voter suppression and Retrumplican disinformation at the same time. Each one is critical. Each one requires electing Democratic candidates who will vote the the things we need.

Biden is the correctly elected President. However, his only plus is that he isn’t Trump. I would like to see a Republican elected Governor as Pritzker and his ilk are a disaster and a non Trump reasonably moderate Republican emerge to run for President as Biden and his left wing have ideas that would destroy America. No Trumpers no left wing knuckleheads. I would prefer candidates from the middle.

At this point, I’m just looking for somebody to put basic competence ahead of partisan politics. I think Pritzker has been better at this than his more recent predecessors. I also think that, pre Griffin, Irvin was good at this in his mayoral role. The rest of the field, maybe not so much.

Yeah, saving democracy sums up my concerns neatly.
If I were picking individual issues, abortion and plans to handle the pandemic. (Which is waning, but still here, and still disruptive, and I would like to feel confident my kids will be able to continue attending school and there are supports in place for families, businesses, and institutions hit by Covid.)
If I were picking an actual state-level issue, it’d be the lack of childcare availability and support. It’s SO HARD to be a parent of kids under 5, even if you make pretty good money, because child care is so expensive and SO hard to find.
