Outer edge of Springfield here, Republican precinct, so I might have been the second Democratic ballot of the day. Surprisingly little electioneering or signs at my precinct, usually someone gets in trouble in the parking lot, but not today. Lots of very tricked out trucks, one with a Trump “Make Liberals Cry Again” bumper sticker, which I assume bodes well for Bailey.

Only 89 between 3 precincts at noon. For the one precinct it is 6% turnout; haven’t figured the other two.

The Streetwise newspaper peddler outside the City of Chicago Loop election super site (with stunning JRTC views) said it’s been slow, real slow all day.
Full disclosure: I tipped him $5 for his insight. Nice guy.

The problem with the Chicago Board of Election Commissioners having polling places opening on time may impact turnout. A given candidate’s campaign can ask for the polling place be open either a half hour or slightly more (7:45?) later or have voters be able to vote at early voting polling places.

About 10:30 went to vote in Lyons Twp. in Cook. Worked my way done the ballot and discovered Chuy Garcia’s name and punch number where Sean Casten’s should have been. Went to the election judges who had no idea. After I called the Clerk’s office downtown with several switches from person to person and being cut off several times the they indicated my precinct covered 2 congressional districts. No one there bothered to let the judges know that. I relayed the information, got the right ballot and suggested they double check with voters. Hard to believe that no voter noticed this before, since it happened to about 5 people during the time I was there, unless everyone up to that point had successfully been given the right ballot from a random selection. Didn’t vote for Clerk Yarbrough after that snafu

Just cast my ballot in Highland Park. Three people in front of me in line but no wait. One man came in ranting his screed to loudly I nearly had to say something. Poll workers were thorough, and spoke as though they had some time on their hands.

Reports of scattered but widespread Xfinity internet outages in the Orland/Tinley area. Not sure if it would affect polling places in any way.

DuPage County has a brand-new on-demand voting system in place called the Vote Anywhere program:
It worked absolutely flawlessly at my polling place.
Based on the experiences of MrsJM and I, I’d strongly encourage its adoption by all Illinois election authorities.

Already voted by mail a few weeks ago down in Madison County (Granite City). Hoping Jeff Connor prevails in the Sheriff race and Chris Slusser in the Treasurer race on the GOP side, since that’s where most of the action is in this area.

Chicago — South Side/Beverly: Went 11:30-ish, about 80 or so votes in the system and 8 people inside voting. Filled in the sheet for JB, Casten & David Moore, then grabbed lunch at Top Notch!

It took more effort than should have been necessary but we got it resolved. In lieu of an “I voted” sticker I got a bacon double stack instead.

Up in Grayslake, both Grayslake North HS and the Grayslake Library had steady traffic.
It’s up in the 31st Senate and 62nd House, so several contested primaries on both tickets.

1 PM, 40th Ward Lincoln Square area. All machines in use when I got there but didn’t have to wait long. I didn’t get the number but judges said it has been steady all day and one said it was a pretty normal primary day as far as turnout

Partner and I wondered over to the polling place at noonish. I can remember people being lined up half way through the gym. Nothing like that today. No snafus but why do they give you the huge privacy shield if the judge has to look at your ballot to initial it (I’m not paranoid I don’t care if they know I voted for Angela Merkel–I would have said Scholz but not sure if he’s famous enough yet).
I liked the old system better where you had the receipt behind plastic and verified it there. Why did they do away with that?

At my early voting site, they kept the shield in front of the ballot the whole time as they initialed the ballot. No need to lift the shield to initial it - that judge was snooping inappropriately. That’s literally what the shield is for.

Southeastern Illinois— biggest take away– there were multiple races on the ballot that I didn’t vote in. Why? I didn’t know any of the people running. My mailbox always had some governor mailing stuff in it, but nothing about the Republican Senate candidates (for example). Maybe, I should have done more homework. Voted for the local races and those state and national races where I was educated enough to make a decision or where only one person was running. I was voter 225. Steady flow on traffic. No waiting.

Nothing different here in Springfield. One of us, non-white, were told our signature did not match and had to show a highly scrutinized ID to vote. The other, white, purposely made their signature not match but all good.
I’m sure it’s just a coincidence for the fourth time.

NW side of Chicago. Humboldt Park. Checked in on a few precinct vote totals. Low low turnout. As few as 10 in one precinct, in a precinct w several hundred registered voters. Maybe early and mail in will be substantial?

In Evanston 4-3 I was the 35th voter… either low turnout on Election Day or higher numbers in early voting and vote by mail. We shall see…

133 early, absentee, and day of voters in my Vandalia precinct. Local sheriff race and judge race bringing out Republicans. Total 4 years ago in the primary was about 150 total.
