Sullivan claims he’s “surging” as he makes his final pitch

Posted in:

* You’ll remember that we connected the American Jobs and Growth Fund to the Jesse Sullivan campaign a while back…

* ABC7

“I think we can, we’re surging; there’s so many undecideds just now making up their mind,” Sullivan said in more conservative DuPage County. “We’ve also energized a whole group of people who have not voted in Republican primaries before, but they’re sick and fed up with how far left this governor has gone and want to fix the state.”

Sullivan was in Arlington Heights Tuesday morning, meeting with volunteers there.

“We’re ready to fight to save Illinois. We’re out to fight for law enforcement, fight for our kids, get this indoctrination out of our schools, fight for the unborn, fight for our faith and our freedom, ready to take our state back from these corrupt insiders who have ruined it,” he said.

Recent polls suggested there were still quite a number of undecided voters, but whether it’s enough for Irvin or Sullivan to catch Bailey is the question that will be answered Tuesday.

* From a reader comes this photo of Jesse Sullivan at the Arlington Heights Metra station today…

* Sullivan was also on WLS Radio earlier today

We had 120,000 people leave the state of Illinois last year. We just lost Caterpillar, an iconic company. We lost Boeing we are losing Citadel now. We need somebody who actually knows what they’re doing from a business standpoint. I went out to Stanford Business School after I got back from Afghanistan, and I learned how to create jobs. I’ve been running a business to do that around the world, but I’m going to create them right here at home and that requires a low-tax environment. I’m the only candidate in this race who vowed never to raise taxes on the people of Illinois because we don’t have a revenue problem, we have a spending problem. And it’s also you know, as a parent, one of the biggest differences is, I’ve said, I will ban this sexuality and racial indoctrination that’s starting to happen in our schools. And we need a strong leader who’s going to stand up against it. I have faith and family values rooted in my Christian faith, to say, I’m not going to sell out the people of Illinois. Not just the Democrats, it’s these insider Republicans that have the same pay to play mentality. I don’t owe anybody anything in this system, and I’m going to change it.

* Meanwhile, on a public way in Chicago…

  1. Did have a single campaign thing at my station (Aurora/Naperville) this morning.

  2. Sullivan might be surprised how this might end tonight.

  3. Not going to lie, even as much as I dislike Bailey, I’m going to get a special amount of schadenfreude-related joy when Mayor Astroturf and the out of state venture capitalist both lose in a big way.

  4. Sullivan knows there isn’t a consolation prize for coming in a distant second, right?

  5. Too bad the primary campaign is over. He should have been “surging” weeks ago.

  6. I got a robocall from American Jobs and Growth Fund this morning. It was really, really weird. I guess anything that shakes things up is good for Sullivan at this point.

  7. If you wanted to create jobs in Illinois you should have located your company and made capital investments here, Mr. Sullivan, instead of just parachuting in to run a vanity campaign for governor.

  8. Better choices at the garage sale than on the ballot.

  9. = Meanwhile, on a public way in Chicago =

I don’t think a lot of people are going to go to Bloomington from Chicago for a garage sale.

Probably the same number that Sullivan is calling a “surge”.

  10. Incredibly low lunchtime turnout at our DuPage County polling place.

Maybe there will be a huge rush after work, but this doesn’t speak well for suburban enthusiasm for any of the candidates at the top of the GOP ballot.

  11. “Recent polls suggested there were still quite a number of undecided voters…” i.e. those who are so fed up and disgusted with both of the main candidates that they plan to stay home and not vote, witness the very low turnout.

  12. == I’m the only candidate in disgrace. . .==

Sorry, Mr. Sullivan, you are not the only candidate in disgrace.

(Yes, I realize it is probably a transcription error.)

  14. Early turnout was very strong in Du Page, much higher than Chicago

  15. If Sullivan finishes a strong 2nd place, that could set up him to run for Durbin’s seat in 4 years.

  16. “Early turnout was very strong in Du Page, much higher than Chicago”

I agree that Jean Kaczmarek has done an excellent job as DuPage County Clerk.

  17. Sounds like a pump and dump scheme from Crypto translated to a campaign. However, most of the “investing” is already over. I’ll give him a distant second now, but still distant.

  18. ===If Sullivan finishes a strong 2nd place, that could set up him to run for Durbin’s seat in 4 years.===

After Roe being overturned … you think a pro-life, religious Right candidate will win a US Senate seat… in Illinois?

  19. I have always thought that those yard signs at major intersections were a horrible waste ….. until just now.

  20. =If Sullivan finishes a strong 2nd place, that could set up him to run for Durbin’s seat in 4 years.=

Do you really think he will still be in Illinois then?

And you think distant runner-up or possibly third in a race to get humiliated by Pritzker positions him for a US Senate race?

Wow, you have some strange metrics.

Comment by JS Mill Tuesday, Jun 28, 22 @ 1:56 pm

  21. Sullivan is ’surging’ from 2nd to last place.

Comment by Pizza Man Tuesday, Jun 28, 22 @ 2:11 pm

  22. “We’re ready to fight to save Illinois.”

Gosh, I wish I had $1 for every candidate who promised to “fight” for me.

Surging may be relative. We can assume Irvin won’t see a “surge” today. Bailey, probably. Sullivan? Even all the voters who actually believe that “fighting” cliche will hardly constitute a “surge.”

Comment by Streator Curmudgeon Tuesday, Jun 28, 22 @ 2:16 pm

  23. = And you think distant runner-up or possibly third in a race to get humiliated by Pritzker positions him for a US Senate race? =

Maybe, who else will the GOP have to run for that office? Duckworth will have a cakewalk this fall against whoever wins today’s primary.

  24. ==And you think distant runner-up or possibly third in a race to get humiliated by Pritzker positions him for a US Senate race?==

To be the Republican nominee, sure.

But I don’t actually think very many people think he ran a good campaign, and from what I’ve heard he does not play well with others.

  25. That sign gives me an idea. Howabout instead of removing candidates sign on public right a way they be required to paint over them (white paint, red whatever) then the community could use it as a community sign pole. Having a rummage sale? Found a cat? Lost a dog? Use that sign to post your own. Once your rummage is done or the cat has been claimed or your dog found, you remove your sign and leave it for the next community member.

  27. “If Sullivan finishes a strong 2nd place, that could set up him to run for Durbin’s seat in 4 years.”

Durbin will probably step down in the middle of his term so that Budzinski (if nominated!) can get appointed by the governor she worked for.

Of course, the best laid plans of mice and men…

  28. @cermak_rd
I’ve been reusing them for years. I took up painting a few years ago and I use them as canvases.
It should go without saying that I am also very cheap.

  29. @Lucky Pierre-

High early DuPage turnout is very likely due to every single registered voter receiving a pamphlet from the election board with a permanent-vote-by-mail application in it.
