  1. Lots of surging going on.

Comment by Wheaton Warrior Tuesday, Jun 28, 22 @ 3:21 pm

  2. Actually picked up a little bit this afternoon here on the south end of Springfield. Still light, but enough activity to keep us awake.

Comment by RNUG Tuesday, Jun 28, 22 @ 3:22 pm

  3. Iris Martinez rolling into precincts all across the 33rd Ward, with a hilariously excessive security detail, to apologize to judges for forgetting to bring them lunch.

Comment by JC Tuesday, Jun 28, 22 @ 3:23 pm

  4. Just got back from voting on Decatur’s west side. Was told they’ve had a “steady trickle” all day, and overheard another worker say they’ve had about 330 voters so far. Didn’t notice any issues with getting enough judges or the like.

Comment by Treefiddy Tuesday, Jun 28, 22 @ 3:26 pm

  5. Darren Bailey and his wife just did a Facebook Live from the Effingham cross, where she read a scripture passage that said “when a wicked man rules, the people groan.” She then added, “There’s been a lot of groaning the past couple of years in Illinois, hasn’t there?”

Comment by Southern Tuesday, Jun 28, 22 @ 3:46 pm

  6. Was number 9 this morning at about 7 am in Marshall County. Checked in again around noon was up to 89. Seems on the high side.

  7. I hope a question isn’t inappropriate.

I heard of a story this afternoon in Macoupin where a polling place was only staffed by Republican election judges. I was under the impression that a Democratic and Republican election judge was required at each polling station. Maybe I’m incorrect on that impression and hope someone can confirm or correct that.

Back to the story, the Republican election judges were mocking some of the folks that asked for Democratic ballots going so far as to saying that ‘Democrats vote tomorrow.’

  8. “I was under the impression that a Democratic and Republican election judge was required at each polling station.”

That’s basically true, but if a party fails to provide the election authority with enough qualified election judges, the election officials don’t have any authority to conscript more.

  9. More than 250 have voted (as of 4 p.m.) in my purplish (occasionally blue) unincorporated Kendall County precincts, much to the surprise of judges. (The site covers voting for two precincts.) I suspect Republican voting will easily outweigh Democratic ballots today.

  10. Decently long line when I just voted in Champaign but that’s likely down to there only being two/three election workers

Comment by Nick Tuesday, Jun 28, 22 @ 4:02 pm

  11. When I voted at 3 in a small town in central Illinois, the count was just about 200. A judge said it has been slow but steady. I didn’t ask, but I suspect, based on past history, 95% of the ballots were for Republicans. There were only two competing races on the Democratic ballot, governor and Sec of State. There are no Dem. candidates for U.S. House, State House or State Senate. 15 races had no Dem candidates at all.

  12. MrJM, thank you very much for your insight. Much appreciated!

Comment by Macoupin Manny Tuesday, Jun 28, 22 @ 4:08 pm

  13. Elgin Twp 15 (plus four more). Picking up from a trickle to a line of about five for the last hour. Looking to be 15% per the Kane Cty Elections supervior.

Comment by Proud Sucker Tuesday, Jun 28, 22 @ 4:09 pm

  14. Actually, the election authorities DO have the authority to “conscript” what’s called a “Substitute” or “Swear-In” judge, from among the precincts voters if the precinct is short. The “Substitute” judge will get paid, though there’s no way to force a precinct voter to serve.

    Comment by Mike K Tuesday, Jun 28, 22 @ 4:27 pm

  15. My little village was at 79 a couple hours ago. That’s pretty good considering the number of voters possible in the precinct. I did not ask the number GOP versus Dems. No idea if they would have told me if I had asked. Traditionally I think it leans Republican. Hard to say now after the last few years

  16. Tons of GOP ballots getting pulled. Lots of Ds jumping order to defeat the incumbent R treasurer who is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Brad Halbrook.

Comment by Shelby County Tuesday, Jun 28, 22 @ 4:43 pm

  17. Our polling place is the local American Legion. The “surge” began when the bar opened. Pretty quiet before that.

Comment by Stix Hix Tuesday, Jun 28, 22 @ 4:49 pm

  18. NW side city Humboldt park turnout
    3 precincts:
    7.5%
    3.4%
    6.3%

Comment by Ashland Adam Tuesday, Jun 28, 22 @ 4:53 pm

  19. Precincts here on the near south side of Springfield between 10% and 13% turnout at the moment.

Comment by RNUG Tuesday, Jun 28, 22 @ 5:02 pm

  20. Southern,

gag. And you know, the thing to me is in my life the people who have most public expressed in-your-face religion were generally people whose lives were at best no different than anyone elses. At worst a heckuva lot worse.

  21. In Dearborn Park, part of Chicago’s South Loop, volunteers are telling me its been steady all day at South Loop School.

I found it interesting that Kina Collins had 3 workers there. Thats unusual for a challenger.

The “New Vision Democrats of Cook County” folks (basically the FOP front group) had people who didnt know who their candidates were. LOL.

Passing judgement and staying classy just like jesus wanted.

Voted by mail. Looking forward to the general.

  23. “Humboldt park turnout”

Good news for Gil, bad news for Delia if it’s that low there?

More of this please. Just go full-on religious zealot, and marvel when you get crushed in November.

  25. Need an update Loami chicken referendum.. Pronto

    Comment by ANNON'IN Tuesday, Jun 28, 22 @ 6:20 pm

  26. Turn out was down where I voted compared to primaries of the past which should not be much of a surprise. I also detect a bit of lack of enthusiasm for the GOP governor’s race which can also be interpreted as everyone thinking Bailey’s lead in the polls cannot be overcome.

  27. I see who Jonathan Jackson has come to city neighborhoods to pass out flyers for him….
