  1. Both can be true.

In an overall, I only caught bits and parts of the Field of Dreams game, it was a great game and event.

The White Sox should be one of the teams each and every year.

    There, I said it.

  3. That Harry Caray CGI was…weird.

  4. ===weird===

I didn’t see the game, but watched the clip this morning. To me, it was very cool. Field of Dreams is basically a ghost story.

It looked nothing like him. It looked like an actor, which really confused me because I thought holograms/CGI used old footage of the actual person.

  7. I agree about the CGI. You have to think of it in the context of the story. Maybe things will change over time, but unlike the NHL’s winter classic, the Field of Dreams game continues to be a magical part of the season. And you can tell that the players past and present love being apart of the event. How cool was it to see Johnny Bench, Sandberg, Dawson, Williams and others with smiles on their faces like they were back in little league.

  8. “It’s the place where dreams come true.” – John Kinsella

The book, and later the film, embraces that they all know, the players are ghosts, even Moonlight Graham, taking on his even younger self, his baseball self.

It was (I saw it later too) “Disney/CGI” weird, but there’s that embracing of what is could be, at least that’s how I took it.

The Reds also had the better uniforms, but I’ll likely get a Cubs hat that was worn.

  9. Watched the game.
Thinking it will be impossible to ever top the Sox game at the Field of Dreams.
Agree the Sox should be in every other game.

  10. Agree 100%. That Harry Caray thing just creeped me out.

Comment by Stones Friday, Aug 12, 22 @ 9:32 am

  11. When I saw the Harry thing, I thought it was an actor singing along with a recording of the real thing.
It was later that I saw it was supposed to be hologram of Harry.
I’m not sure why they didn’t just use footage of Harry.
“We’ve got the technology, we can make him better.”

Comment by Bruce( no not him) Friday, Aug 12, 22 @ 9:45 am

  12. Harry Caray CGI is so very Cub/Ricketts.

Comment by Amalia Friday, Aug 12, 22 @ 9:49 am

  13. The 2021 Field of Dreams game was super fund, but ultimately a disaster for the White Sox. It left them 20 games over 500 and in command of their division. I think it got in their heads a bit, taking the foot of the gas, so to speak.

In the 158 games since then, they are only 4 games over 500 and floundering. Can’t beat the bad teams they should be beating.

So yea, fire Tony. But as Johnny Cueto said, someone needs to light a fire under the team. LaRussa says there’s no need for more fire??

  14. Should have at least modernized Harry. “Hey, Christopher Morel’s name spelled backwards is Lerom.”

Comment by Ron Burgundy Friday, Aug 12, 22 @ 10:06 am

  15. The White Sox rank 18th in attendance this year and despite great talent only have a .500 record.

Why do they deserve to be featured in the Field of Dreams game every year with a national audience other than the fact Frank Thomas is one of the owners of the property?

Comment by Lucky Pierre Friday, Aug 12, 22 @ 10:14 am

  16. ==Should have at least modernized Harry. “Hey, Christopher Morel’s name spelled backwards is Lerom.”==

Plus umpteen references to Budweiser throughout the game.

  17. ===Why do they deserve to be featured===

    Because Madigan? /s

Comment by Rich Miller Friday, Aug 12, 22 @ 10:19 am

  18. I think the Field of Dreams game each year needs to involve two of the six MLB teams who claim Iowa as their home territory, resulting in their games being blacked out on MLB Extra Innings (in favor of “local” telecasts). Cubs, Sox, Cardinals, Royals, Twins, and Brewers.

Comment by Just Sayin Friday, Aug 12, 22 @ 10:20 am

  19. Since I retired I can TGIF,S,S,M,T,W and T (and exclude the banned special character)

Comment by Rabble Friday, Aug 12, 22 @ 10:30 am

  20. The Harry CGI was weird as heck, uncanny valley stuff. I really liked the broadcast though, aside from Smoltz. Bench in the booth was entertaining. I had no idea Joey Votto was so interesting and engaging. And Fergie did a great job in the booth too. I typically disdain FoxSports coverage, but I think that was a job well done (outside of Harry)

Comment by Joe Bidenopolous Friday, Aug 12, 22 @ 10:31 am

  21. The Harry hologram was bad. It didn’t look like him AND it didn’t say “Let’s get some runs!” at the end of the song.

  22. I just discovered cowcam at the IL state fair. And I had no idea the cow spins.

Boy, - LP -, your negative stats know no bounds, sports too.

  24. At the State Fair. Bummer; no teams this year. Us old folks have to walk everywhere. Apparently couldn’t get enough volunteers to o operate the trams.

  25. Still remember going to Dyersville as a kid with my dad 30 years ago and having a catch.

The best part of that movie starts with James Earl Jones at Fenway Park. “No what do you want” - “Oh dog and a beer”

Comment by Cool Papa Bell Friday, Aug 12, 22 @ 12:01 pm

  26. Don’t forget Harry’s eye for the ladies in the stands with ‘interesting’ comments he’d make. “Look at her…hat”. And if you believe that… :)

Just glad we got out of the 90+ temps and 70+ humidity for a couple of days; had to spray-paint something and couldn’t do it with those numbers.

  27. Not only have I seen Field of Dreams, I have been there and like most baseball fans was familiar with the Shoeless/ Joe Black Sox 1919 World Series game fixing scandal before the movie came out.

Honestly answer if you were in charge of scheduling the game and trying to maximize interest and revenue would you schedule the White Sox every year given their mediocre attendance both at home and on the road?

I am a lifelong Cub fan but I understand your sensitivity to any criticism about your beloved White Sox.

Just one more thing in a long line of things you get wrong. LP is a Cubs fan. Can’t even get that right.

  36. But I wonder how much of the TV audience last year was watching it just for the Yankees, however?

If it returns in 2024 hopefully we can have Cardinals-Yankees at Dyersville for the 60th anniversary of the ‘64 World Series and the subsequent end of the original Yankee dynasty.

Comment by Just Sayin Friday, Aug 12, 22 @ 4:10 pm

  37. wonder how many of the viewers last year were tuning in for Tim Anderson?
