SDems issue list of “ten most interesting new laws”

As the new year starts, a number of new laws take effect. Nearly 200 laws will officially be on the books Jan. 1 – from one that bans latex gloves during food preparation, to another that reduces vehicle registration fees for seniors.

The Senate Democratic Caucus outlined 10 of the most interesting laws that will affect Illinoisans in all corners of the state. Those include:

  1. SB 3609 $25 rebate for purchasing and titling an IL manufactured vehicle. It has some limitations as far as purchase/title date must be within a certain time period of manufactured date.

    HB 5304 is not for all senior citizens. Only those that qualify under the Benefit Access program (formerly Circuit Breaker) through Dept on Aging.

  3. I recognize it is a one line summary, but the description of SB 3120 Family Bereavement Leave Act is not very good. The act also applies to men. It defines what events related to pregnancy and fertility are covered.

    A major component of the act is expanding who is considered a covered family member for bereavement leave. It will now cover domestic partner, in-laws, and step parents among others.

    Needless to say, I am disappointed that I don’t qualify for the program. Saw the bill blurb and then went looking for details.
