Cannabis baron ridicules equity programs: “We’re going to give these assets to felons and people that have two heads and all this kind of stuff”

* Green Market Report

[Curaleaf Executive Chairman Boris Jordan] asserted that it’s not the idea of social justice that irritates him; it’s the execution of the programs in several states.

“We’re all for social justice and recognize that this industry has been built on some pretty horrific stories from the past,” he admitted, but said the programs in more liberal states – he lists California, Illinois, New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania in this category – have gone off the rails to hide financial problems in the programs.

“They went off on these programs, and we’re going to give these assets to felons and people that have two heads and all this kind of stuff,” he lamented.

But, he warns, sooner or later, these states will need more tax revenue from cannabis operators, and to get that, the programs will have to change.

60-30-1, and those numbers ain’t there for you, bub.

  5. The guy who is basically Philip Morris in this conversation is saying that the persecuted minority populations who were most victimized by the war on drugs are getting too much of his profit share? The only retorts that come to mind “will likely result in banishment” according to the disclaimer on this comment section.

  11. The irony: Illinois’ attempt at social equity inclusion in the cannabis industry is what has given the major companies a 3-year head start on competition.

    Illinois’ complete and utter failure to figure out how to award SE dispensary and craft grow licenses resulted in the highest retail prices for legal cannabis in the nation due to a lack of a competitive cannabis market.

    Yep, I will now avoid buying from Curaleaf. It’s helpful when jerks reveal themselves in the world of business. I’m sure other brands aren’t perfect, either, but now I know about this one at least.

    I’m confident that Boris Jordan, as a Russian oligarch and former employee of the Russian Center for Privatization, knows a thing or two about giving assets to felons.
