Man busted for sending threatening e-mail

Posted in:

An Illinois man has been arrested for allegedly sending a threatening e-mail to Attorney General Lisa Madigan.

A Walnut man appeared in Bureau County court Thursday morning, after being arrested by the Illinois State Police and the Federal Bureau of Investigation for threatening a public official.

Darryl W. Hanson, 50, allegedly sent an e-mail to Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan on March 2, which threatened in part to “call in help from militia, media, skin heads and anybody else who is willing to kill bent officials. It is time for war.”

He is charged with two Class 3 felonies of threatening a public official, after he allegedly sent the e-mail from the Walnut Public Library.

According to Bureau County State’s Attorney Patrick Herrmann, at the time of his arrest, Hanson informed the Illinois State Police he did not mean any harm to Madigan or Gov. Rod Blagojevich, but he intended for the e-mail to harm local officials. […]

According to court records, Hanson has been in a dispute with the village of Walnut since 1995 concerning the keeping of refuse and abandoned cars on his property, a city ordinance violation.

And then there’s this from a different paper:

Recovered in the search were two shotguns, eight handguns, two pellet guns, one stun gun and one laser pointer, as well as more than 1,000 rounds of ammunition and a cassette tape with militia information on it.

  2. What was he going to do with a lazer pointer? Why did the cops confiscate it?

  3. He was going to use the laser pointer to point out all the corruption in Illinois government.
