Broken schools and proposed funding cuts to those that are working, crime, disruptive protests all fueled by political approval of the far left and no plan to fix any of it except shakedown Springfield….the last 5 years have been great for Chicago’s suburban property values. It’s hard not to think significant chaos will disrupt the DNC and further fuel a flight out of the City.

While income disparity is problem I worry about. Chicago by many metrics is hanging in there. It would seem property values in many parts of the city and wealthy people it attracts are doing ok.
You worry about the past 5 years - but look how wealth has grown in the city over the past 10.
=Chicago ranks fourth among U.S. cities for the number of millionaires. The city has 120,500 millionaires, 24 billionaires and 290 centimillionaires. A centimillionaire has wealth of at least $100 million. Compared to a decade ago, the millionaire figure is up 22%. The report says one in every 22 residents or about 2.6 million Chicagoans are millionaires.=

No stations have been directly named yet but hopefully this may have Illinois effects. Sinclair is looking into selling 30% of its TV stations nationwide as well as the Tennis Channel:

Too early to know if Channel 20 is among those stations sold.
Hopefully Peoria’s WHOI 19–which lost ABC in summer 2016 to WEEK-25.2 and has only aired Sinclair’s subchannel netlets ever since (TBD, Comet, Charge) is among the top of the list for potential sale. Maybe Tegna could acquire WHOI and try to restore its ABC affiliate. This would give all the Big Three Peoria and Quad Cities stations the same owner (CBS-Nexstar, NBC-Gray, ABC-Tegna if they get WHOI), and perhaps a case could be made for merging those two DMAs.

Two armed men robbed six businesses last night in Chicago. The primary targets were liquor stores, but two Subway sandwich stores were also hit. The Lincoln Square neighborhood was the location for most of the crimes.
Genuinely worried about the DNC. Chicago needs a convention like 1996, not 1968.

Why is it a “TROLL” to have an opinion that is not shared by the majority on this site? I see this quite regularly on both sides of the political spectrum ion various sites.

I pray KHQA in Quincy is one of the stations that Sinclair sells. KHQA has become a political commentary platform with little local news, sufficient weather, and only occasional sports (10:00 hour). Most of the 30 minute broadcast is devoted to promoting the ideas of the National Desk, Donald Trump, Turning Point USA, Campus Reform, etc. Indoctrination is a wicked platform managed by Sinclair, and served cold by local vendors.
Last night, they ran a story suggesting “youth” are being exploited by Democrats to spread false stories about climate change, school shootings, and everything else. They said students are incapable of understanding social problems and do not know what they are talking about. They suggested young people are stupid and should not be allowed to express grievances in public.

I liked the Chalkbeat story yesterday about teaching Asian-American history in schools (although I didn’t see it until this morning). One of the most impactful experiences of my K-12 career was when the smartest-mouthed kid in the class interrupted the teacher of our world lit class to complain we were spending weeks on dead Italians, but there was no Korean literature in the curriculum at all, despite Korean being the most-spoken language after English in our community and many of our classmates having Korean heritage. The teacher paused, said, “That’s a good point. I don’t know anything about Korean literature — let me get back to you.” And she came back a few weeks later having talked to every professor of Korean literature, history, culture, etc., in Illinois, and many more across the country, having bought with her own money a bunch of university textbooks and treatises, plopped them all down on her desk and said, “So nobody has a Korean literature curriculum for high school students, so you’re going to write your own, and then teach each other.” She gave us guidance on state standards and thinking through a good lit unit, had us divide ourselves up into groups (poetry, plays, classical fiction, modern fiction, Korean-American work), and we set to work. I was in the poetry group; we researched the development of Korean poetry and important poets, searched for good examples of movements/poets that were a good length for a high school unit, brainstormed assignments. We took a week an April and each group presented a class period on their area of Korean literature.
Our teacher had us work up pretty thorough summaries of our research and suggestions and resources and told us she’d use it as the basis for her lessons in future years, and also to make a list of what resources should be available in school and local libraries. Then the next week she surprised us by having us go present our work to the princpal, school board, and library board during class, along with our recommendations for material purchases to improve access to Korean-language materials and Korean materials in English in the community. And they bought like 80% of what we suggested. Thirty years later, those Korean literature sections are STILL THERE in the school and public libraries, when I go home and visit my parents.
I remember way more Korean poetry than any other poetry I studied during high school. But having a teacher say “I don’t know, let’s find out, and you can build it” was mind-blowing. It was SO empowering, and in retrospect probably the best single piece of preparation for college imaginable.

Teachers at Grant Middle School in Springfield walked out today over safety/discipline issues. There are some tremendous facility improvements occurring in the District but difficult issues remain particularly in providing services to an increasing number of at-risk students, retaining staff, and getting substitutes.

The department of corrections seemed wildly unprepared as they had their first CGFA hearing this morning. Not only does their “plan” negatively affect the Staff at both facilities, it would be EXTREEMLY disruptive to the inmates as well
