I had completely forgotten about this proposal. Good catch by the Northern Star.

Gov. Rod Blagojevichâ€™s proposal to require community service for high school graduation has not materialized as proposed because of the stateâ€™s current fiscal crisis, officials said.

The proposal, which was part of the governorâ€™s 2004 State of the State address, would have required high school seniors to complete 40 hours of community service to graduate.

What is the cost?Many private schools already require it. Maybe some students could volunteer for the Gaming Board and get themback in control.Would be a great experience for them.
