Saturday, Gov. Blagojevich announced a partnership between the state and eight Illinois-based credit unions that invested $100 million in securities to finance low-interest, federally backed loans.
Because the Illinois Student Assistance Commission, not the lenders, will determine who gets the loans, community college students’ requests are considered with the same weight as students from 4-year institutions, spokesman Claude Walker said.

He said ConAgra officials did not know Avitrol would be used or that it is controversial. Avitrol is banned in some jurisdictions, including New York City.

After four years of heading the 16th Circuit, Chief Judge Donald C. Hudson is bound for the Illinois Appellate Court.
Hudson will replace 2nd District Appellate Court Justice R. Peter Grometer, who will retire from the bench in early January. The court is located in Elgin.

Cleveland used to have a program called the Cleveland Scholarship Program. From what I can recall, it was a ssimilar set up, but the money went towards college tuition.

This is a very bad idea and undermines the whole notion of education.Will these students then expect to get paid an additional amount for everything they do in life includeing breathing 2500 times a day? What about students who transfer in or out from another system? This will no doubt lead to the students threatening anyone who doesn’t give them what grade they need in order to receive their cash award. Why don’t they take the money and use it for scholarships for tuition for career training or general college studies.

I would suggest the student’s get their money up front. My daughter was awarded one of those $1,000.00 acedemic scholarships her Senior year of High School only to have Gov. Goofy say there wasn’t any money to give out. That happened several years in a row. So my advice is don’t count too much on the grade money, cause you will probably just get an empty envelope.
