The governor’s office says the state disaster declaration means more state assets and personnel will be available to flooded communities. So far, the state has already provided 130,000 sandbags, along with several water pumps and boats to help with evacuations.

Young said a new report from the association found that since 1984, the parole rate for long-serving inmates has averaged 3.5 percent. The board’s rejection of the union’s proposal can’t be written off as an effort to retain their seats during the election next spring. The school board employs teachers, but is answerable to taxpayers as a whole for prudent use of their money.

First - I support teachers and believe that most school problems would be resolved with more parents supporting teachers and schools. If Johnny can’t read, Mom and Dad should look at themselves and not the school.
That being said. Most government employees have been getting 4% raises, Since teachers work for local government, why should they be treated any different than the police or fire department?
Do teachers only consider themselves government employees when it comes to retirement?

That headline should be changed to “2/3 of Cook County State’s Attorney Candidates Face Off Today”. The Union League Club continues to pretend that Green Party candidates do not exist. And pretending that the Rs & Ds might actually have solutions to the problems they’ve created.

PFK, my opinion of the Green Party (only as pertaining to Cook County) is that it only serves to dilute the anti-Machine vote and preserve the status quo.
