  16. The internets is serious business!!!

Comment by Levois Thursday, Sep 25, 08 @ 12:20 pm

  17. i am assuming this stick person is writing a post on a blog, since that is where most debate takes place on the internet. the wonderful thing about the internet as a medium of communication and debate is that it can never get physical. PEOPLE CAN START TO YELL, but that is all they can do. we constantly hear how the writing skills of kids and people in society in general today are deteriorating, the rise of blogs in recent years may be creating a space where writing skills can be improved. that being said, even if you are able to write well, and form a solid argument, the person that you disagree (or agree) with or who stimulated you to write the post may not read your comments, so your post may go unread by the person that you want most to read it. in looking at the cartoon i am reminded as well of a comment i heard from a print journalist who was critical of blogs saying the information contained in some of them is often “wrong.” it didn’t take much thinking on my part to bring up Jayson Blair, the NYT journalist who fabricated entire stories and was let go for it. So there are two tracks going on here in this cartoon, the idea of blogs as a medium of debate and that of whether or not what we read on blogs is factual.

  22. Gov. Rod Blagojevich issues an executive order declaring that all factual errors on the internet be fixed by close of business on September 30, 2008.

That’s the end of THAT chapter.

  29. I’ve always likened arguing on the internet to playing tennis with a brick wall. No matter how good you are, the brick wall always wins.

And no, that has never stopped me from arguing on the internet.

  36. We could re-caption that comic to make it be Rod feverishly writing his own press releases. Or re-writing to “do right” AV’s.

  37. Rich…..

Glad to see we have the same sense of humour. I laughed out loud at this one and I’m not one to do that often.
