Here’s the link to DJWriter’s story about a near run-in between his dog and the governor’s security detail that I wrote about in today’s Capitol Fax.

(Hat tip to Eric Zorn.)

UPDATE: A tip in the comment section led me to this fun little guv sighting:

So I’m running by the Governor’s house this morning, and a secret service guy, who was not very secretive with his jacket off, displaying his “piece” strapped to his belt, but was in service, tried to figure out how to collapse the Governor’s golf bag cart in order to place it in the official golf bag cart transporter — in the form of a black Ford sedan.

Heh.

  1. The gov’s got another neighbor who’s recently blogged about him. Click here:

Scroll down to the second paragraph in the 4/19 entry. Nothing too damaging, but it does show that his neighbors are watching, and blogging.

  2. I realize I lose credibility points for not signing my name to this comment, but . . .

Last summer, I was driving through Ravenswood Manor at about 1:00 pm. (I’m pretty sure I was on Wilson Ave.) The radio was reporting that the Toll Highway Authority issued a plan to increase tolls on non-I-PASS users and use the increased tolls for construction. Blagojevich was at the press conference, and I’m pretty sure that he had a soundbite on the report.

Sure enough, soon after the report ended, I saw the Governor taking a run on this residential street in Ravenswood Manor. I didn’t see a security detail, though.

It was memorable because the Gov was taking his run so soon after the press conference. So, while I lose credibility by not giving out my name, hopefully I gain credibility by tracing this job to a specific date (August 25, 2004) and rough time (about 1:00 pm) and location.

  3. You saw Blago out jogging the very same day that he held a news conference?!?

Boy, if you had only left your name, we’d have some breaking news. Call up John Kass and blow this scandal wide open, anonymous.

  4. Well, let’s put this in context. If you regularly saw someone who was supposed to be working for you jogging by his home on workdays instead, you’d want to know, right?

How many times has Chicago-area television run an “expose” of city workers slacking off during work hours? Isn’t this the same?

Yeah, this isn’t a big deal (hence it’s on a blog), but it doesn’t paint a pretty picture either.

  5. No, it’s not the same.

Sorry, but criticizing a guy for jogging around 1 p.m. on the same day as a news conference is ludicrous in my book.

  6. Woody Allen said “90 percent of success is just showing up.” The governor doesn’t make it to Springfield much and now we’re finding out that he may not even spend a lot of time in his Chicago office. Yes, this could be a big thing.

  7. There are at least three separate instances just on this one post of the governor goofing off on a work day. So, I’m curious, FlakCat, how is it different if Streets and San workers get caught on video just goofing off and the governor (who is a government employee as well) gets caught goofing off on a work day?
