* Gov. Blagojevich was on MSNBC today. He appeared to need a little help at the 1:06 and the 2:28 marks because he was prompted by someone in the room with him…

Carbon deforestation? Not quite sure what he meant.

…Adding… As pointed out by a commenter, and confirmed by my own ears, there seems to be the sound of a toilet flushing at the 2:19 mark. Hilarious.

…Adding More… From the governor’s press office…

The governor was in the car, en route to the airport during the interview with msnbc.

OK.

  1. obviously was going to mention pollution from carbon dioxide, but someone reminded him to mention deforestation.

Comment by GoBearsss Tuesday, Nov 18, 08 @ 2:00 pm

  2. It sounded like he was going to say something that started with “carbon” like carbon tax/emission credits/sequestration and then his “aide” threw deforestation at him.

    Fiddling while Rome burns.

  3. Someone missed the hand signal for “Give me a buzzword!”

  4. GoBearsss, was he sitting in the bathtub because there seems to be a lot of splashing sounds at the end.

Comment by Rich Miller Tuesday, Nov 18, 08 @ 2:04 pm

  5. I wondered why he was on the phone at the beginning of the sponge bath I was giving him.

  6. Actually, I think it was the sound of the Governor’s ladle dipping into the Kool-aid. Ahhhh, refreshing that Kool-aid is.

  9. Mercury? LOL–he wasn’t in the tub, he was throwing in a kitchen sink.

Comment by archpundit Tuesday, Nov 18, 08 @ 2:10 pm

  10. I wonder if he menat carbon trading. The proposal to allow countries to offset their carbon dioxide emissions by reducing deforestation or reforesting cleared areas. He must have heard this from someone else because given his record with DNR he isn’t a tree lover.

Comment by Irish Tuesday, Nov 18, 08 @ 2:10 pm

  11. Another powerful leader once said, “Pay no attention to that man behind the Curtain!”

Comment by Downstate weed chewing hick Tuesday, Nov 18, 08 @ 2:11 pm

  12. Funny - even 30 seconds of preparation would have solved this problem. He must have come straight from something else with no chance to review his talking points. Shoot, he’s Palin-like!

  13. Oof, maybe it wasn’t Kool-aid after all.

C’mon. She’s not a large person at all. She doesn’t need an entire suite.

Comment by Rich Miller Tuesday, Nov 18, 08 @ 2:42 pm

  26. Still, that’s not nearly as funny as Denny Hastert’s quote today about Hillary Clinton.

Comment by Rich Miller Tuesday, Nov 18, 08 @ 2:44 pm

  27. If that was a flush someone needs to make a a clever testicular virility joke.

Comment by wndycty Tuesday, Nov 18, 08 @ 2:48 pm

  28. I especially liked the fact that Hastert pointed out that Hillary had intercourse with leaders everywhere. And I thought that was Bill’s specialty!

Comment by ChiGal Tuesday, Nov 18, 08 @ 2:51 pm

  29. Hastert mixed up his Clintons there, I think.

Comment by Irish Tuesday, Nov 18, 08 @ 2:59 pm

  33. Rich, I’m glad Governor Blagojevich’s insignificant gaffes offer you so much joy. Let’s not forget the President-Elect whom so many of you supported (I believe you did too, Rich) is from Illinois. Any personal gaffes expressed by our sitting gubernatorial leader reflect poorly on the President-Elect. In other words, exercise your liberal media bias and lay off the Governor!

Comment by Black Ivy Tuesday, Nov 18, 08 @ 3:01 pm

  34. And lay off Hillary Rodham Clinton too while you’re at it!

Comment by Black Ivy Tuesday, Nov 18, 08 @ 3:01 pm

  35. That flushing sound was the emperor arising from his throne. “Off to do the peoples business”

Comment by How Ironic Tuesday, Nov 18, 08 @ 3:02 pm

  36. “Intercourse” huh? No wonder Hastert & edgar the blink are for her. Maybe it’s time for them to just become the randy dems they seem to be.

    LOL. Perhaps in your mind.

Comment by Rich Miller Tuesday, Nov 18, 08 @ 3:07 pm

  39. Rich, I think you need to take down the flush comment.

That was obviously just me scooting my chair closer to the tub.

(In all honesty, it sounds like he did the interview in a car - very audible highway sounds).

Comment by GoBearsss Tuesday, Nov 18, 08 @ 3:11 pm

  40. BI, keep drinkin’ that Kool Aid! If Rev. Wright, Bill Ayers, etc., haven’t stuck to the “chosen one” Blago gaffes certainly aren’t going to hurt him!

  47. Rich, I’m just saying. Enough is enough, you know?

ChiGal, buyer’s remorse is already settling in. The breadth of this economic repression/depression is being sorely felt my each and every one of us. No amount of Obama-mania can deaden the pain.

My spirits were uplifted a bit by talk of Hillary Rodham Clinton’s SOS appointment.

    Lucio, where are you???

Comment by Rich Miller Tuesday, Nov 18, 08 @ 3:21 pm

  51. I’m rethinking this “Flush” question - there is such a thing as Too much information.

    Comment by A Citizen Tuesday, Nov 18, 08 @ 3:22 pm

  52. ===buyer’s remorse is already settling in===

You have any evidence for that? Seems to me Bush’s numbers are tanking further and Obama’s are rising.

If you persist with these sorts of posts, you’re gonna get called on them.

Comment by Rich Miller Tuesday, Nov 18, 08 @ 3:22 pm

  53. Definitely a flush.

LBJ used to make his aides follow him into the can. Has Rod adopted a new role model?

Comment by wordslinger Tuesday, Nov 18, 08 @ 3:24 pm

    This sound so bad.

Comment by Levois Tuesday, Nov 18, 08 @ 3:38 pm

  60. Not to spoil anyone’s fun, but if the Governor was calling from his home, the flush in the background could have been one of his children using the bathroom. Teehee — the Governor’s children go to the bathroom…

Comment by soccermom Tuesday, Nov 18, 08 @ 3:38 pm

  61. soccermom, the governor is in Hollywood at the enviro summit.

Comment by Downstate weed chewing hick Tuesday, Nov 18, 08 @ 4:17 pm

  73. A limo so big it has its own loo? That’s not too environmentally friendly now, is it? :) So does the trooper on hairbrush duty also have to hold the tp?

    Comment by S. Illinois Tuesday, Nov 18, 08 @ 4:18 pm

  74. Was Gov. Goofy saying “State” government? Sounded a lot more like “FAKE” government. Would have to agree there.

Comment by sal says: Tuesday, Nov 18, 08 @ 4:21 pm

    Comment by 618er Tuesday, Nov 18, 08 @ 4:26 pm

  76. Apparently the Guv was using an old style water guzzling toilet, because if it were the new 1.6 gal per flush, he would have had to have flushed twice.

Comment by Crystal Clear Tuesday, Nov 18, 08 @ 4:27 pm

  77. Wow, this entire thread went from amusing to silly to belabored all the way back to sublime.

You can trust us, Rich. : )

Comment by Tidy Bowl Man Tuesday, Nov 18, 08 @ 5:01 pm

Comment by Bill Tuesday, Nov 18, 08 @ 5:53 pm

    Comment by A Citizen Tuesday, Nov 18, 08 @ 5:58 pm

  85. The governor was in a [private suite] with his [top aides] while he was [presiding at a staff meeting] and he took a phone interview while [putting the finishing touches on a quick little matter] when he inadvertantly [activated a sophisticated piece of hydraulic equipment] which resulted in [some unfortunate background noise].

Comment by Ahem Tuesday, Nov 18, 08 @ 6:09 pm

  86. He’s at an environmental conference and he’s in a automobile with a bathroom? What’s the MPG? Did he fly commercial, or state plane?

I don’t know from global warming. Weathermen call any forecast over ten days a WAG (Wild — Guess), but computer models see the future?

My ancestors sailed their Dragon Ships from Rogaland (western Norway) to Greenland, and not Florida, because it was pretty sweet there at the time. Later, it got really cold.

But I’m in favor of cleaner air, water, all the good environmental stuff. So I drive much less than the average bear (a sweet Dodge Caravan with LOTS of cupholders), take the bus and the el, and walk.

But these global-warming absolutists drive me nuts. If you talk the talk, walk the walk. The hypocrisy from Rod is not surprising, but it goes all the way up the ladder through the Hollywood phonies all the way to the Nobel Big Al Gore, he of the private planes, Escalades and Oxy Petroleum.

You want to save the planet? Support the universal emancipation of women and children. Give them their rights, and the planet will get a lot less crowded.

Comment by wordslinger Tuesday, Nov 18, 08 @ 6:30 pm

  87. Looks like Hastert said Hillary had “interaction” with many world leaders, not “intercourse.” Truth not nearly as amusing.

    Comment by Sophie G Tuesday, Nov 18, 08 @ 7:01 pm

  88. This is the first time I have heard that utilities must get 25% of their power from wind by the year 2025 - that’s 2025. Whoa. And 145 State buildings are using 100% wind power. Double Whoa. And that Illinois has a fleet of vehicles that are hybrid flex fuel. Can that be? Well I’m sure somewhere in this big state there is a fleet of hybrid flex fuel vehicles. Blago didn’t say they were state owned. And we now can claim a 90% reduction in mercury in Lake Michigan. Could that be the ENTIRE Lake Michigan. Whoa again. He has that kind of power over the other states that border Lake Michigan? I’m thinking I’m about to be impressed here.

Oh, but wait a minute. Blago was asked what he has done in HIS state. He says the earth temp is rising. Is that just in Illinois? The snows of Kilimanjaro are melting. What county would that be in Guvna? He talks of the ocean temp warming. And exactly what part of the state is that ocean located? Oh and the polar ice cap is melting. Would that be in Cook County? He talks about working with the governors of FL, WS, KS, and CA and noted this is being done under the leadership of the CA governor. Well, at least he recognizes leadership - and it ain’t him.

But here’s a great revelation. IT’S ALL GEORGE BUSH’S FAULT.

Comment by Little Egypt Tuesday, Nov 18, 08 @ 7:04 pm

  90. The Guv at an environmental summit?

I’m sure he had to look up both words in the dictionary before deciding to attend…how trendy!!

Everyone knows how concerned he is about the quality of our environment and natural resources,
just look at how he has funded IDNR, I mean, oh never mind…CARBON DEFORESTATION???

Comment by Loop Lady Tuesday, Nov 18, 08 @ 7:32 pm

  91. Little E, I was wondering about the governor’s claims, too, especially the 145 buildings and the hybrid fleet. Anyone know what he’s talking about?

Comment by wordslinger Tuesday, Nov 18, 08 @ 7:50 pm

  92. - wordslinger -
Does anyone ever know what he is talking about, including himself? And more importantly, does it really matter?

    Comment by A Citizen Tuesday, Nov 18, 08 @ 8:04 pm

  93. Actually, Illinois has done a lot more than just about every other state when it comes to environmental issues.Like wind power, like the big mercury reductions, like the flex fuel fleets, like the carbon reduction goals, like the lake michigan compact, like the CO2 sequestration, etc.

It mostly happens behind the scenes. Out of the spotlight because it isn’t sexy enough for reporters to care about, and the governor to tout.

Comment by pro Tuesday, Nov 18, 08 @ 8:05 pm

  98. I don’t know anyone who takes Quinn seriously. He may be talking about stuff, but he isn’t actually DOING anything…

Like I said, it isn’t sexy, so nobody covers that stuff, and thus the governor doesn’t do anything press-wise on it.

But his people have done a lot of good stuff, like I mentioned above.
