Hadn’t really noticed this logic before, but WJPF News Radio has the story:
Governor Rod Blagojevich says a bill to sink Illinois’ riverboats is really an attempt to raise taxes.Blagojevich is wary of Marion Representative John Bradley’s bill that would repeal the state’s riverboat casino law, thereby putting the state’s nine casinos out of business. Bradley says the casinos have hurt the state’s economy more than they have helped.
Blagojevich says the loss of casino revenue would hurt education and health care, and create an outcry for other new taxes.

John “The Wallflower” Bradley is a bright guy. But he’ll have to answer the question of how to plug the revenue hole if his bill passes.

In a “battle of the minds” between Blago and Rep. Bradley - I’d put my money down on John as the easy bet to win…hands down!

For starters, we should remember the gambling money won’t be vaporized….Most will be spent in Illinois on taxable stuff. So a big chunk will stay right her sports fans. Let the other anti gamers come with their own ideas.
Need we comment on how dumb can Blagoof be by attacking the Wallflower yet again.

Police: Teacher Starts Brawl in Class

DALLAS - A high school teacher faces an assault charge after police say she walked into a middle-school classroom, grabbed that teacher’s hair, yanked her out of her chair, and dragged her across the room while punching her in the face and kicking her.
According to the police report, Paulette Baines grabbed Mary Oliver in front of the class full of gifted students Friday. Baines was angry because Oliver told her daughter to quit loitering by lockers and go to class, Dallas school district spokesman Donald Claxton said.
Oliver said Baines was yelling at her as she entered the classroom.
“I want you to know I didn’t raise a finger. I didn’t raise my voice. I didn’t do anything to aggravate the situation,” Oliver said. “I did everything possible to defuse the situation.”
Baines was charged with assault with bodily injury, according to Dallas County Jail records. Baines, 45, was released early Saturday after posting $2,500 bail, a jail official said.
Baines, who was placed on paid administrative leave, did not immediately return a call seeking comment placed by The Associated Press on Monday.
Oliver, who teaches seventh-grade science at a Dallas school for gifted students, said she had bruises on her face, a concussion and two broken ribs.
The incident happened after Oliver talked to Baines’ daughter and several other students about going to class. Students are not allowed to be at their lockers during class time, Claxton said.
Oliver said she did not single out Baines’ daughter, an eighth-grader. The girl went to the school counselor, who called Baines to tell her what had happened, Claxton said.

That bill would create a $550 million hole in the budget. How much will Bradley’s schools lose. He only wins on this issue if his bill loses. Why would Rod be the one attacking Bradley instead of one of his supporters? That was not thought out at all.

Actually, Wallflower is quite right and Rod, as is customary, is just plain wrong.
Casino gambling results in net losses for Illinois all across the board. This is proven through a series of empirical studies - notably by Professor John Warren Kindt, MBD,JD, LLM, SID from the University of Illinois School of Business.
Professor Kindt, together with Rev. Tom Grey (always entertaining) will appear to counter the “Yes Casino” Chicago casino proponents at a forum next Wednesday, April 13, 7 p.m. at Grace Place, 637 S. Dearborn Chicago. This forum - “Downtown Casino Gambling: What are the Stakes?” is being hosted by South Loop Neighbors, the local resident community organization.
CAN-TV will televise for later local access broadcast. But who knows what that schedule is. Don’t miss an interesting live show if you want to know the real dollars and sense on Chicago and Illinois casinos - and if you want to weigh in on it before local media.

These budget negotiations will be so interesting.
Madigan’s support of Bradley’s abolishing casinos bill and Jones’ support for casinos for everyone has forced Blagojevich to break a big anti-gambling promise.
It will be interesting to see if what Madigan does combined with Jones’ huge push for the property tax swap will force Blagojevich to break his big anti-tax promise.

CAN-TV? Are you serious? How did this guy score the spot on CAN-TV? Now everybody will know what he knows. Give me a break — he’s waynes world. To anon 4:49, you’re wrong. Bradley is bright, but weak. Blago is equally intelligent, but tough as nails. Blago wins…hands down!

Hey Anon 8:32. Great rebuttal. So Blago “wins” the debate because he’s better at getting face time in front of the cameras. You’re pathetic and so is the Governor. Everyone is sick of your little frat boy style - Blago is going down and taking his little towel snappers with him.
