Hamos will “revisit” with supporters and ask for ideas

Posted in:

* Democratic state Rep. Julie Hamos was planning to run for attorney general. She just put out this statement…

Following the news of Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan’s decision to run for reelection, State Representative Julie Hamos released this statement:

“Lisa Madigan has been a strong Attorney General and an excellent leader for the state of Illinois. I was pleased to learn that she will continue to provide excellent leadership to our state in these difficult times.

“Over the past few months I have met with Democratic and community leaders and heard the concerns of voters across Illinois. In the coming days I plan to revisit those supporters and ask for their best ideas on how I can work for the people of Illinois. I look forward to hearing their ideas and input as I discuss my next steps with my family.”

Still waiting on one from Rep. Jack Franks, another Dem looking at AG. I’ll post it here if and/or when it arrives.

  1. Now she gets to wait for Hynes. If Hynes goes for something else, she runs for Comptroller. If not, then Treasurer.

  4. Jeff Schoenberg may have a leg up on her, if the Comptroller’s or Treasurer’s office opens up.

  5. Looks like the new 800 pound gorillas are Alexi, Pat Quinn, Tom Hynes, and Chris Kenndey. Two of these bold and courageous candidates will soon become the most powerful Democratic Leaders in Illinios. Time to start linning up behind anyone of the above mentioned winners. The future of the Democratic Party has begun.

  6. Dear “I wish I were …” The Obama campaign f/raising database appears to have been shared with some Dem. officeholders/hopeful candidates, which ticked me off royally since I also get their emails. Unsubscribe and tell DP of your displeasure.

Do you really think two people from the same orgabization run against each other? Who will have Jan’s blessing?

  9. Julie should consider Cook County Board President. She has the reform credentials and would do better on TV than Larry, Danny and Dorothy.

  10. Wasn’t Jack Franks running for Governor? Yeah I heard that non answer he gave to Mancow on WLS Tues. morning!

Comment by Levois Wednesday, Jul 8, 09 @ 4:49 pm

  11. Off topic, I know what I wish and Jaundiced are thinking, but there is no way anyone would be able to pry the Obama Prez campaign fundraising list loose from them.

  12. There is an open Lt. Governor’s office…

  13. I know Jack Franks very well and was with him when he narrowly won his Republican leaning district the first time. Since then we’ve had a falling out and haven’t spoken much so there is no inside information here. However, with AG going for Senate, my prediction is that Hynes may run for Treasurer leaving the Comptroller job open for Franks to go for. This will leave his district ripe for picking by the Repubs. The mayor of Woodstock, a more or less openly gay Republican, is the leading contender. It could be interesting around here.

  16. Franks will lose whatever statewide office he runs for.

The only person who thinks Jack Franks is interesting is Jack Franks.

  17. Jon Shibley Fan … I can tell from the misspelled first-name salutation that my subsequent email communications (from Hamos and 2 other north shore hopefuls) are coming off that database. A friend in the NW suburbs also is receiving emails from statewide hopefuls such as Hamos … same first-name salutation misspelling error. Only commonality: We both gave to Obama campaign.

  18. Julie Hamos is great and I want to see her move up eventually, but I’m hoping she’ll stay in her state rep seat for a little longer - have you seen the bozos vying for her seat?!

Comment by Keep Julie in Evanston Wednesday, Jul 8, 09 @ 8:23 pm

  19. I live in their districts, and while Julie Hamos seems to be genuine and a sincere reformer, Jeff Schoenberg strikes me as condescending, arrogant and phony. I think Hamos would make a fine LG.

    Comment by Mighty M. Mouse Wednesday, Jul 8, 09 @ 9:15 pm

  20. I would love to see Hamos as LG - but I can sure appreciate Keep Julie in Evanston! Either way - we are lucky to have Julie Hamos in public service for the State of Illinois.

  21. Jack Franks would be an excellent candidate for Governor. He would be a near unbeatable general election candidate. If you ask me he would have a lot of trouble getting through a Democratic primary though. The 63rd district would be terrible to lose to the GOP also.

  22. I like a ticket of Jack Franks for governor and Melissa Bean for louie gov.

    Just for the bumper sticker.

  23. Wordslinger,

    Very very funny.

  24. I know Hynes is bored w/Comptroller, but why would he run for the lesser job which is being vacated by an elected official he must surely consider himself superior to in every respect? Comptroller is ahead of Treasurer on the org chart. Hynes has to gamble that he can consolidate the third floor and the fifth floor and become a more appealing campaigner.

Schoenberg is staying where he is, now that he’s in Senate leadership. Hamos has done all anyone like she could do in the House and now it’s up or out.

Jack Franks? He will get a rude awakening once he ventures out beyond his district and the compliant press which laps up his Blago-bashing quotes. No chance statewide.

  25. Just for the bumper sticker.

    Franks/Bean - It’s a Gas!

Comment by Six Degrees of Separation Wednesday, Jul 8, 09 @ 11:56 pm

  26. Little Egypt - Treasurer is above Comptroller, but Comptroller is more important and makes actual policy decisions, ESPECIALLY when the State can’t pay its bills and the Comptroller has to deal with the mess. Having the two offices probably made sense 100 years ago, but not anymore when actual banks handle the state’s investments instead of a single person.

  27. Giannoulias has done all right with Treasurer. Hynes should run for Governor. Hamos for Lt. Governor. Alexi has taken some hits but came out all right yesterday.
