  1. No talk on layoffs or inmates being released in the first day back. What is the word on that? For me that is a big deal because at a local level we (taxpayers) spend alot of tax dollars to convict them and it appears they are going to be released to become the pillars of society. Any indications as to the cuts or are the tough choices budget cuts still the ones.

  5. Thanks for the video.

So tell us, Mike, did any one besides press sec. Bob Reed, and Republican Minority Leaders actually attend this “Leaders Meeting”?

Didn’t think much of Radogno’s ’slight, very slight’ delayed paychecks or the ‘a few, well prob. more than a few’.

One. Just one was one too many, beings days and/or people.

  6. It’s good to know the Illinois taxpayers are funding churches with the new budget. You might how that’s constitutional? But, this being Illinois few care. Where’s the ACLU?

  9. OMG Here’s a little flash —- IL not alone

States trimming small programs to balance budgets

JACKSON, Miss. — South Dakota eliminated grants for mosquito spraying. Illinois stopped paying for funerals for the poor. Kansas reduced mowing along highways and turned off air conditioning in government buildings earlier than usual.

As states across the nation struggle to balance their budgets, lawmakers are seeking savings any way they can, even if it means nickel-and-dime cuts in basic services.

Since the recession began, many states have slashed spending by billions of dollars. Now legislators in all 50 states are looking for still more cuts as they confront a $121 billion shortfall for the new fiscal year that began July 1.

  10. We, the People of the State of Illinois - grateful to Almighty God for the civil, political and religious liberty which He has permitted us to enjoy and seeking His blessing upon our endeavors - in order to provide for the health,
safety and welfare of the people; maintain a representative and orderly government; eliminate poverty and inequality; assure legal, social and economic justice; provide opportunity for the fullest development of the individual; insure domestic tranquility; provide for the common defense; and secure the blessings of freedom and liberty to ourselves and our posterity - do ordain and establish this Constitution for the State of Illinois.

Sounds like our elected officials have dropped the ball (I’m sorry, that was yesterday’s All-Star game snark).

  11. Hey,
Circular\EmptySuit is up early today. Lots to do today to get ready for another 10 minute special session. Besides, it is payday…oh wait a minute, never mind.

  12. How honest is it to say that “over spending the last seven years” is the cause of this crisis? Isn’t the problem the plunge in revenues? And weren’t we over spending the previous years as well?
